Positive Aspects:
- Multiple access points and pathways for easy navigation.
- Wide, flat track suitable for pedestrians, cyclists, and families.
- Plenty of wildlife to observe, including various birds, enhancing the experience.
- Beautiful scenery, especially around sunrise and sunset, making it a great location for photography.
- Friendly atmosphere with locals often interacting on the trails.
Considerations:
- The boardwalk is relatively short, and some users felt that the surrounding gravel paths were less appealing.

Overall, the Estuary Boardwalk offers a lovely escape into nature, making it one of the region's treasured walking paths.
Estuary Boardwalk: Opinions
Positive experience: Nice place for walk/ jogging 3.5 km loop
Positive experience: The boardwalk has been named after Roger Sutton, who dedicated his life to the conservation and protection of the area. Sutton was a pioneer in controlling the invasive Spartina grass that was taking over the estuary and made significant contributions towards restoring the native wildlife. The boardwalk is a trail highlight and makes for a perfect photo spot. At high tide, the water rises to the bottom of the boardwalk, and the local swans and ducks often enjoy swimming here.
Fantastic experience: Many different ways to walk, can be a short or long walk, plus great views
Positive experience: Great local walk with several entrances, wouldn’t recommend if it is super sunny as it is all uncovered. Council please put in more rubbish bins as only draw back when walking a dog.
Negative experience: Not sure what the hype is but we read it was a must do activity. Well, the boardwalk is so short and the rest of the track is hard gravel no where near the water. Yes there were a lot of swans in the distance but most of the hour loop was not near the water. We were really disappointed. If you are a local it would be a nice walk to do but as a tourist activity it is not worth it. And as I stated the boardwalk itself is very short.
Positive experience: The Estuary Walkway in Invercargill is a lovely walking and running track while giving you pleasant views across the water with swans and ducks swimming around. It's loop track is around 3.4 km but you can extend your walk easily by taking the track towards Bluff.
Fantastic experience: Lovely area. Easy to use and fit for groups to pass each other. Bikes, children, dog al at one time with no issues.

Positive experience: A lovely walk any time of day. Love watching the swans.
Fantastic experience: Great for walking your dog and having a time out walk for yourself. Beautiful scenery from watching the swans float on the water to watching the planes take off from the airport. On a good day u can see Bluff and all the surrounding areas and if u are that keen for a long walk u can continue the track to Bluff township its self. Meet some lovely people on the way too, even the keen bikers enjoy this track. Big thumbs up

Fantastic experience: Gorgeous walk, lots of birds to be seen such as swans, spoonbills, herons and many more. It's a wide flat gravelled track with some wooden board walk. Good for biking. If you do the loop around the lagoon, it's about an hour long walk but you could do longer or shorter walks too. Great views to Stewart island, Green hills and Bluff.
