Fantastic experience: Great gym also has a sauna

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of this gym for about a year now, and I knew the staff here was amazing, but today Khai and Jamie have been the greatest people ever! They have been on the spot for an emergency for my dad and never left us alone. Their support was incredible. I am so relieved that there are people like these two working at the gym, you will never feel alone. Thank you again Khai and Jamie!

Negative experience: As a woman, I would not recommend this gym. I use to go to pump gym a few years ago, but what has prompted me to write this review now, is that another lady I know has recently left for similar reasons. I did not feel comfortable there. Other girls and I had multiple experiences of uncomfortable encounters. I did not feel the staff response was sufficient, it felt sexist and dismissive. I would not say this is a safe space for women. I feel it is my responsibility to put this review out as a warning to any women looking to join this gym or validate any others who have had similar experiences. I also hope it prompts the gym to look into this issue, as it seems not have been resolved or addressed in the years since I left.

Positive experience: The Pump Gym at Watford is very good value for money. The layout over three floors and the available equipment and weights is great. However the changing rooms, particularly the showers and toilets, are in need of a refurbishment, or at the very least freshening up. I’d also like to see the trainers set a better example and clean equipment after their workouts.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been attending this gym for over a year now. Never thought of getting a PT and I have recently got a PT called Kai. He is absolutely amazing, wish I’d met him sooner. He is so patient with me and gives me a boost to push myself. He is so lovely and I feel so comfortable with him. I currently do sessions with my mum and Kai and I’m looking forward in doing one on one sessions with him. I would recommend Kai to anybody if they need a PT. Couldn’t have asked for a better person to help me reach my goal. Thank you so much Kai :)

Negative experience: I had a very disappointing experience with Pump Gym. The gym is often messy, with equipment frequently broken and not promptly repaired. It creates an uninviting and frustrating workout environment. Additionally, their customer service is the worst I’ve encountered. I tried to cancel my membership multiple times, following their guidelines, but they failed to process my request and continued to charge me. Despite showing proof of my cancellation attempts, I was not offered any resolution or refund for the extra charges. Overall, I would not recommend Pump Gym to anyone. The poor maintenance and lack of customer support make it a terrible choice for anyone looking for a reliable gym.

Negative experience: The worst gym I have ever been to. I have been a member in 2 different pump gyms and the customer service at Watford pump gym is absolutely the worst I have experienced. This gym does not deal with issues that arise, or have a system in place for complaints. A yoga instructor on 2 occasions treated me with such disrespect it was shocking. This was due to me being 8 mins late to a morning class that I had booked (due to childcare issues). The yoga instructor was so horrible, made me feel like a criminal and asked to leave the class. I emailed them about this situation and have never had a response. Warning to all, stay clear of this gym!

Positive experience: Car parking facilities aviliable, identify the off time and arrange the visit you can complete your session’s freely

Positive experience: Solid gym - decent facilities spread across 3 floors, very reasonable price, good amount of parking space and generally pleasant atmosphere. Only real negative is that it can get very busy, especially between 5 and 7pm on weekdays. Overall, would highly recommend.

Negative experience: Ok gym. But be prepared to be recorded when training. Too many people recording with their tripods that take 20feet of space. No privacy at all. If you plan to record go to a private gym!

Positive experience: Good well equipped gym, lots of kit over 3 floors, basically everything you could want from a place to work out. Knocked a star off because it's a bit dark and properly smells like a gym. I know they're sweaty places but it's quite noticeable compared to others I've used over the years

Fantastic experience: I liked there, but I believe they need to organize the gym equipments by category, and add more leg equipments, like leg press and leg extension and leg curls.

Negative experience: Never has any heating on. Warmer outside then inside. The management is quick to email you and threaten to ban you for a month if you don't put weights back but can't put the heating on. What a joke.

Negative experience: I went to this gym for about a year. Won’t be returning. The staff are barely present throughout the day, so good luck if you are trying to sign up as you will need a staff member available. It’s such a shame that the staff is so poor because the facilities are pretty good.

Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms in Watford and London and the first gym I've been to. Great hammer strength/ life fitness machines top of the line. Alot of machines that most gyms don't have including 3 lateral raises machines if you don't know the correct form for free weights. Great and welcoming staff and very helpful. The atmosphere while hitting the gym late is so enjoyable and so much space in the gym. Great cardio machines and you can start classes wheneverr you want instead of booking it. The gym is out of the way and is great if you live in Rickmansworth and go to work in Watford or the other way around All around the best gym for 21.99 if highly recommend

Negative experience: I have been a member for a long time, although I have experienced unpleasant situations several times, I have never complained, but today one of the staff members verbally attacked me during my session, all because I opened the door of the PT room while looking for the sponge. I also immediately received an email in which I informed that my membership would be terminated if I broke the rules again, and that no one from the management had previously contacted me to ask what it was all about. It would also be nice if the toilets and showers were clean.. the staff cleaned the air conditioning filters during working hours, which a few days ago caused me to feel unwell because of my dust allergy reaction. There are so many things that the members of the staff should take care of and not think about the fact that I, as someone to whom this place is a second home, opened the door looking for a sponge. :)FitMom

Negative experience: Gym is just marketing. In addition to having to exchange devices with countless people, you also need to be patient with devices that are always broken and impossible to use. In addition to the terrible mood of the employees. Completely dissatisfied. I do not recommend!!!!!!!

Negative experience: Unfortunately, the improper ventilation and the very unpleasant smell of the sports hall and the broken sports equipment and not repairing the sports equipment for a long time... are not acceptable.

Positive experience: The gym is split between three floors, which the first floor being mainly a studio/aerobics room(s). The gym is a very good quality gym and a huge option of different machines and weights, so far I haven’t yet run into a machine which is not there. The only downside to the gym is the fact that the gym is incredibly busy throughout the whole day so the only sufficient time to go is either midnight or early hours in the morning, but as I do shift work this isn’t really a problem to me but would more than likely be a problem for people who are interested in a quieter gym.

Fantastic experience: A very very old member here. Been coming to pump gyms since it was in the old location. The new gym is nice and spacious. They do their best repairing all the equipment, just need to be patient as it’s a very large gym. Lots of parking spaces next door if you can’t find parking. Sauna is great for them rest days. My daughters will soon be old enough for membership so the whole family will be at pump gyms. Great place.

Positive experience: Recently switched from Hatfield to Watford, nice change up and packed full of equipment like its others. Lost my keys on my first couple days in and had multiple members offering to help and an extremely helpful staff member named Lucy searching high & low. She ended up finding them thanks to her quick thinking and resourcefulness. Big thank you to Lucy for ensuring I was able to get home after a hefty leg day! (Little annoying that the only water fountain is on the third floor)

Negative experience: I'm totally disgusted with the owner of this gym; Marc Platter who cancelled my membership simply because my husband expressed his concerns about the presence of CCTV cameras being in the changing' rooms. I personally heard Marc Platter shouting at my husband on the phone despite my husband reminding him that he was merely expressing his concerns and is a paying customer and encouraging Marc to be aware of how he was speaking. Despite this Marc continued to shout so my husband disconnected the call. Marc Platter why did you cancel my membership as well as my husbands? I have never spoken to you or your staff so what were the grounds of cancelling my membership? Because my husband expressed his concerns about your changing rooms having CCTV cameras in them? Is this the way an intelligent, mature and customer focused business owner should behave? This is diabolical and childish and we BOTH need to be compensated for this disgusting behaviour and misconduct!

Fantastic experience: Friendly gym, enjoy going

Negative experience: I’m moving away so emailed the gym to request cancellation and they never respond. So had to go direct to Hartlands who handle the direct debits and what an awful company they are. Also hardly anyone puts there weights back. And the lift is always out of action ( watford ) The most disturbing thing is they have cctv in the male toilets and which I never thought was even legal.

Negative experience: In the last 6months the gym has been steadily becoming more neglected, un-maintained, the equipment takes months to repair even things as simple as replacement clips, and the sauna is never hot , and the sauna structure is so old and damaged and un insulated there are gaps in the wall panels allowing all the heat to escape and and outdoor light is shining into the sauna.

Negative experience: I am deeply disturbed by the behavior and aggressively threatening conduct of the owner (Marc Platter) of this chain of gyms. Several months ago, when getting dressed, I noticed two CCTV cameras in the men's changing rooms. I was uncomfortable with this and approached the duty staff to express my concerns. I was told that my feedback would be conveyed to the head office. Today, I spoke to the duty staff again, who advised me to send an email to the company. However, they did not ask for my name or number. Shortly after, I received a call from Marc Platter, who was shouting very aggressively and rudely. Due to my dismay about how I was being spoken to, I asked, "Do you own this gym?" expecting him to say no, and then encouraged him to consider how he was speaking to a client. He responded, "Yes." At this point, I asked him why he was shouting and being rude. He went on to shout that he has cameras to deter vandalism. He continued to shout aggressively despite my highlighting that he was shouting, and he then threatened to cancel my membership, breaking his own terms and conditions: "9. We reserve the right to cancel your membership if you breach any of our membership rules." I should note that I have NOT broken any rules; I was merely expressing my concerns about CCTV cameras being in the men's changing rooms. He continued to shout aggressively and was shouting, "I've had enough of my gyms being vandalized." I tried to explain that it wasn't me who was vandalizing them and therefore he shouldn't be shouting at me. This was while he kept shouting, so it was clear he wasn't listening and was having some form of anger attack or tantrum. This was a very angry man who clearly lacks customer care. I was not comfortable being spoken to in this way, so I hung up the phone. The next thing I received was a refund alert on my banking app, indicating that he had indeed canceled my membership and access to the gym. I am shocked and appalled by this! As a business owner, I would never speak to anyone, let alone my customers, in this way. He could have conducted a far more considerate and professional approach and handled this far better, instead he chose anger and bullying tactics. To other members or prospective members, please note that the men's changing rooms have CCTV cameras in them. Some of you won't be bothered at all, while others will. I personally do not like the idea of someone being able to watch and/or store video footage of me undressed, particularly due to the fact that a data breach is not impossible, considering how many large and well-known companies with world-class security have had data breaches. According to sources readily available online, "Any device connected to a network can be hacked. Even the most expensive and complex CCTV setups are vulnerable to remote attacks." The ICO website clearly states: "CCTV shouldn't be running in areas considered private – such as in toilets and changing rooms. Using CCTV here wouldn't usually be fair or proportionate, meaning it wouldn't be compliant with data protection law." I am completely shocked that he was so rude and aggressive and had the audacity to shout at me and then cancel my membership. For what? For expressing my concerns about them having CCTV in the men's changing room and inadvertently storing video footage of me that is highly private? This is not acceptable, and it is disgusting that the owner has behaved in this way. I believe they not only need to take those cameras down, but he also owes me an apology and a complimentary membership to make this right. APPALLING! 20 Jan 2023: He has also cancelled my wife’s membership for NO REASON! Marc Platter you are a disgusting BULLY! 22 Jan 23: The owner responded to this review which doesn’t explain the legalities and doesn't excuse his cancelling mine AND MY WIFES membership disgusting. I have NEVER in all my life encountered a business owner who is so childish and self absorbed. He has had the audacity of cancelling memberships because I raised my concerns. What does my wife have to do with this?

Positive experience: Nothing like described on the website, half of the equipment is out of order on the bottom floor, spend half my time waiting around. And the mens toilets downstairs are disgusting, like a swimming pool. Top floor is fine if you like cardio

Negative experience: Gone downhill... -Equipment left broken for weeks. -Sauna temperature turned right down recently, apparently due to safety but every knows its to save on leccy bill. -Lift always broken, not good on legs day. - Cameras in toilets, totally uncalled for - Lack of staff to report any issues They need increase the price to 25quid, most people inc me would happily pay to just give us a better service.

Negative experience: They have made it a nightmare to get our membership cancelled. Still being charged each month sending repeated emails asking to revoke a member ship. Not worth it, only need a month for a work visit for two memberships and we are 100 plus pounds in the hole and counting. Do not join this gym.

Fantastic experience: If I wrote this review 3-6 months ago I would have given it 2 stars but fortunately they have replaced all the treadmills with new super duper machines! 50% of the time I use the treadmill! Been a member for 6 months and now cant complain! 1. A few suggestions for the owners if they read the comments: I would consider moving the punch bag frame/bags to the corner and consider hanging another 2 bags on the frame. 2. Maybe move the punch bag frame and bags to the second floor?

Fantastic experience: Loveeeeeee it here, it’s a bit further out for me, but the equipment is top tier and there’s loads of space even when it’s packed. Im in awe of the functional/HIIT area on the 3rd floor and love the weight training are on the 1st floor. The only thing I’d say is, maybe consider spacing out the benches a bit more. Oh, and more staff to assist people who need it (just an observation), I think it’s always daunting when you’re new to the gym. So having someone who you can approach to help with equipment/machines would be an extra touch on the customer experience. Overall I’d call this a hybrid gym, a cross between commercial/body building. The people that attend are also great! Everyone’s there to work!!

Negative experience: Thieves. Offer to give free PT session which they then don't give to you. Then take your money and cancel on you when you chase. How can there be no availability of a PT for 6 months? The gym itself needs repair as running machines not working. Staff pick on new members to put equipment away and say nothing to the "regulars"

Positive experience: Very good gym my one problem is the sauna it used to be at a constant 90 degrees c but recently has been at 75 which is way to cold it takes me at least 10 min to even start sweating on the top shelf please can it be changed back to how it used to be 90 or above is perfect

Nothing been told to " others ".When I challenge the staff they threaten to cancel my membership and they did next day after being 5 and half years with them. Negative experience: There is new management now and gym bags are no longer allowed on the gym floor. For anyone who goes to the gym seriously this is a big problem and a rule I just can't get behind. Other problems are that equipment is often broken and the lift never works. It is a big gym and has a lot of equipment and decent machines, if the above 2 issues were fixed or changed id give 4 stars

Positive experience: can be very busy, but apart from that, facilities are excellent and it's a great gym

Positive experience: Gym is cheap yes, but has a few issues! 1. 16x treadmills at the gym, only 5x work, of those 5x, 4x have faulty touch screens. All other machines have had a maintenance sign attached promising replacement, the signs have been on there for over 6x months. 2. Fingerprint access/egress is problematic, you will not be able to leave sometimes! 3. The staff seem to be disgruntled, every engagement has been negative and strained, best option is to avoid any communication with the staff. 4. Gym users bang the weights at the end of each set (not controlled) I know this is a usual occurrence in most gyms but it is particularly bad in this gym, the staff could do a better job at reprimanding this behaviour. 5. Not the cleanest of gyms. 6. The tannoy music is poor, on a loop and the same genre. Needs variety or turned down so you can hear your own personal music. 7. Not enough barbel plates, specifically 10k plates, this is promoting arguments within the gym. Causing friction. Broken equipment, negative staff, dirty stuffy and dark environment. All in, the gym gets a 5 out of 10, has the potential but falls short, needs money spent on new equipment and better trained staff that are in attendance in the weights floor. Avoid and look for an alternative.

Positive experience: I really like this gym. Facilities are well kept and the place is clean. There are 3 levels with multiple rooms so it is spacious and never felt crowded whenever I went. It's also one of the only gyms I've been to that had a sauna that wasn't always crowded with people. The commute was really my only issue. Really sad I can't go here

Negative experience: Majority of treadmills broken for weeks. Dirty and smelly. Cheap gym but still not worth it. Just pay a bit more.

Positive experience: Today was my first day in the gym, it's well laid out, cleaning supplies are in place, only gripe was that I couldn't see any staff despite hearing the messages about getting help and training

Positive experience: Been a member for 2 years now, great space, few updates but very busy! Love the aesthetic feel of the neon lights and dark walls etc. I see a lot of reviews about the staff, I would say they are present in the evenings every time I go except Sundays. You can usually find them by the front office or hovering at the downstairs gym, putting weights back etc. I would give it 5 stars but some machines are broken for longer than needs be and customers always park in disabled bays without any care or consequences.

Fantastic experience: First time here, love the fact the have soo many options, 3 levels according to what you want to do an focuse on, liked lighting downstairs, makes it feel alittle less intimidating. They have a very spacious ladies changing room with a sauna, then 3rd floor is more of your Normal weights and with other options of working out.

Fantastic experience: I joined last week after being a member at David Lloyd Northwood for many years these are a few reasons why I like pump gyms. Easy sign up - I made an account payed the £20 immediately I recieved a email with instructions on how to enter the gym, that same day after work I went to the gym typed my membership pin on a screen set up my fingerprint and entered the gym. Staff - I had a few questions so I sent them a email and within 10 minutes I had a reply with all my questions answered. Also in the gym so far i've found the staff very approachable and keep the gym tidy (lets hope this keeps up) Equipment & Parking - So far I've found the equipment in very good condition although there always seems to be few treadmill's with 'out of order' signs on them, its never been a issue for me but I can imagine when it gets busy having a few down may cause one. The parking so far has been good I've been able to get a space. It really helps that they have a live capacity checker so I can see how busy the gym is. Overall for the money I think its 100% worth it, its open 24 hours, has a sauna, shower and changing facilities and its only £20 a month with no contract might as well give it a try! (lets see if they can keep this up!)
