Positive experience: This is a lovely hotel. Polite and friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you. Rooms were clean and quiet. The included breakfast was excellent and had whatever you want. The bar was nice and also served bar food. The Gym, pool and steam room were all excellent. We highly recommend this place. Also check out Alexander's bar on site. Thanks Best Western.

Fantastic experience: Hotel excellent. Food ok. I'm not a fan of adding supplements to almost every menu item so felt a little ambushed by their dinner menu. That said the food was ok.
Thanks Rob delighted u enjoyed ur time with us and hope to see u again. 3 items with supplements out of 25 dishes is hardly an ambush. Don’t forget, we also have the bar menu and the pub so suit all pockets.

Positive experience: Hotel reception and bar area were lovely and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. However we were disappointed with our room for the price (£165 for two adults with breakfast). It was quite small with basic facilities and the bathroom was tiny, you stepped straight out of the shower (which itself was small) into the toilet. Drinks at the bar were also quite expensive although the service was good. Breakfast was adequate although the cooked section seemed to have been standing around for a while, there was also no coffee machine for cappuccino/espresso options just filter coffee or tea provided. Overall a clean and comfortable stay, but felt a little like staying in a more budget hotel with the room size and facilities provided.
Dear Rachel Handley,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Castle Green Hotel. I am pleased to hear that you found our reception and bar area appealing, and that our staff provided you with a welcoming experience.
I appreciate your observations concerning the size and facilities of your room. We strive to offer a variety of accommodations, and I regret that your assigned room did not meet your expectations for comfort and space. I also acknowledge your comments about the breakfast options and the pricing of drinks at the bar. We aim to provide quality service and value for our guests, and I understand that these aspects were not to your satisfaction during your visit.
Your insights are valuable to us as we continuously seek to improve our offerings.

Positive experience: A lovely hotel situated on the outskirts of Kendal. Excellent service in all areas by friendly and conscientious staff. Rooms are clean but a little dated particularly bathrooms with showers over the bath. Nice touch is air conditioning in the room but will only go down to 19°. The food in The Greenhouse was superb and excellent value for the evening meal. Breakfast was plentiful and of a good quality. Beware the toaster that fires the toaster at you! Overall a nice stay in a beautiful part of England.
Thanks Pete, hope to see you again at the Castle Green hotel

Dear Fursey McHugh,
Thank you for your kind words regarding your recent visit to our hotel for a wedding. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the food and service. It is our aim to provide memorable experiences for all our guests.

Fantastic experience: My daughter had her wedding there this weekend and, after spending two nights there, I can't fault anything to do with this hotel as a wedding venue. The wedding organisers (Chris and Hannah) were there every minute of the day from early morning to late at night making sure everything ran smoothly. Which it did. There were plenty of occasions when the bad weather could have derailed the ceremony, post ceremony canapes and drinks and formal photographs but there were always members of hotel staff running around to make sure people knew where to go. As for the evening celebrations I have never seen such a happy and content group of people. The bar staff and waiting staff were very efficient and friendly and the food was excellent. Thank you and well done to the Castle Green team who made sure my little girl got the wedding of her dreams.
Dear Neal,
Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful feedback regarding your daughter's wedding at Castle Green Hotel. We are truly delighted to hear that your experience exceeded expectations and that our dedicated wedding organisers, Chris and Hannah, contributed to the seamless flow of the day.
It is heartening to know that our staff's efforts in managing the logistics, especially during challenging weather conditions, made a positive impact on your celebration. We take great pride in our team's commitment to providing exceptional service, and your kind words about our bar and waiting staff, as well as the quality of the food, are greatly appreciated.
Thank you once again for your generous remarks, and we wish your daughter a lifetime of happiness.

Fantastic experience: We stayed here for 2 nights and everything was good. All the staff were friendly and professional. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The pool and steam room were good. The gym was probably the biggest one I've seen in a hotel. Plenty of parking available. We slept very well here. Overall a great experience and we'd visit again, but have dinner somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: We just had a really relaxing break away. We arrived to find that we were upgraded because of a special occasion. This was such a suprise and treat. We went for the afternoon tea bed and breakfast deal. Afternoon tea was delicious (we didn't need anything for an evening meal) and breakfast was a help yourself buffet style. Negative experience: Can't fault the room or staff. The evening meal was a complete rip off, as a grown man I expect more than 3 cubes of carrots and 3 cubes of potatoes with salmon. For £30 I was still hungry after, understand it's about presentation but truly shocking child like portions. Another negative was all the nonsense everywhere, not warranted or nessasary, very woke...
Hi Mark, we try to please everyone and clearly failed with you. Portion sizes r reasonable if u r having 2 or 3 courses, perhaps u would have been better with a bar meal.
As for Pride, we acknowledge everyone, if that’s not ur cup of tea…….thats ok, we understand.

Positive experience: Decent room with a lovely view. Walk-in shower very small and more like a climb-in. Breakfast covered most stuff and Ok but I was unable to get another pot of coffee. Evening meal had an ok starter and dessert. The main course (lamb) was so bland it was inedible.
Many thanks Nick for your constructive points. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short.

Fantastic experience: Stayed from Saturday 24th May to Tuesday 27th May 2025. The receptionists were courteous and friendly, our room wasn't ready (we were early) so we sat in the lounge area and had a drink. Receptionist kept us up to date about the room. Beautiful hotel. Gorgeous grounds, trees are stunning. Has a lovely ambience, decorated to a very good quality. Our suite 137 was outstanding, view was lovely, very clean, comfortable bed, everything was where it should be. The breakfasts are excellent, there's everything you need, lots of choice quality foods. Decided to visit the restaurant, staff were friendly, courteous and on the ball, we had the Sunday roast which was absolutely delicious, had portobello mushrooms with a herb crumb top to start, very nice, it's a real roast with proper big slices of roast beef(not that pressed rubbish), roasties crispy & fluffy inside, mash creamy, tenderstem broccoli al dente, carrot & swede mash, cauliflower cheese(served in its own little pan) and a proper gravy, Chocolate tart and the lemon pannacotta with raspberry sorbet were perfect. I would definitely recommend trying the roast if you enjoy a "real" roast dinner with lots of taste. We came back on Sunday 1st June and had the same again and it was as good as the 1st time. We are staying here again from the 2nd June for 4 nights as we love the hotel that much, the staff, the room, the food and location a few minutes to the centre of Kendal, all highly recommended. Wonderful. Can't wait to get there on the 2nd June.
Many thanks for ur kind words. Reading them on 2nd June, so very much hope u have a lovely stay with us.

Fantastic experience: Just got home from a 2 night stay for our 10th wedding anniversary, stayed in a executive suite (bed and breakfast) the suite was amazing,, set basically in its own wing in the old part of the hotel, just what we wanted, huge 4 poster bed, bathroom with bath and shower cubicle with overhead shower. Flat screen TV, sofa, fridge, air conditioning and heaters. And then there is the staff they can't do enough for you, all very pleasant and friendly, I had flowers delivered to the hotel to be put in our room for my wife, the reception staff are so helpful, emailing and messaging me back when needed. The restaurant staff were lovely, breakfast was very good, we ate in the restaurant in the evening as well, I'm a very fussy eater, if anything they might think about a few different choices for the more fussy eaters. 5 minutes drive to Kendal town centre, lovely views from the restaurant and gardens. All the ladies on reception were lovely, but a special mention for the blonde lady who was amazing as we were leaving my wife's flowers leaked all over the floor and she told us just to leave it and she would get it sorted, thank you so much for providing us with such a memorable stay. Couple of niggles, but really didn't affect our stay at all. We stayed in 144, the ceiling paper could do with a tidy up, the sliding window near the bed goes up but is very hard to close. And the step coming out of the bathroom is a little high, but it is an old room so I understand. And maybe a bigger TV, if you want to watch TV in bed it is a little hard to see.
Many thanks for your review, Neil. Delighted that you enjoyed your time with us and thank you for your constructive comments that we will review and fix!
Hope to see you again soon

Negative experience: 1 Star – Hugely Disappointing Stay – Not 4-Star by Any Measure Stayed Saturday 17th May 2025. I honestly don’t know how Castle Green Hotel has a 4-star rating – it felt far from it. The reception welcome was cold and disinterested. Our room was tiny, claustrophobic, and the bathroom was so cramped you practically stepped onto the toilet getting out of the shower. The windows were filthy and flies were buzzing about – not what you expect when paying for a ‘premium’ stay. Outside, tables were littered with dirty glasses and pizza boxes that no one seemed in a hurry to clear. We tried to order food from the menu displayed at Alexander’s bar, only to be told it was actually for the main restaurant. When we pointed out how ridiculous that was, the barman laughed and admitted everyone says the same – but “management don’t listen.” To be fair, the food in the main restaurant was excellent – though served by possibly the strangest waiter I’ve encountered. Breakfast was the final straw. After queuing behind 13 people for 15 minutes, we gave up and left. We asked reception for a refund – but were told their system “couldn’t handle it.” Frankly, neither could we. Won’t be returning.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short.

Negative experience: Good evening Robert, Thank you for your reply. As per my previous mail/review, I have already spoken to the front desk and unable to resolve situation. Yes, the receptionist was very professional and polite, she also explained if I'd have booked a standard room i might have had a room woth a view. Upon arrival, if i want one it will cost additional charges. I'm extremely disappointed that I upgraded our room from a standard to a king and also received a confirmation from yourselves that my request for a room with a view can be provided knowing what standard of room had been booked. Please see below FYI: You got a message about your request Castle Green Hotel In Kendal, BW Premier Collection said: Check-in time • Approved Castle Green Hotel In Kendal, BW Premier Collection 3 May | 5 May Details: Check-in: 18:00-19:00 We are pleased to let you know that the accommodation has confirmed they will be able to arrange this for you. I use Booking.com, Hotel Travago, Airbnb to travel nationwide on a regular basis and worldwide, so find it very strange to receive the customer service that I've received today and extremely disappointed to say the least. Negative experience: The room itself was okay but did have stains along the carpet. What lets this place down is the service and management involved at the hotel. While the staff are all friendly and nice to talk too I find they are not sure what they are actually talking about. I had a dinner booked for the first night and what I thought was the second night. I was not told on the second night that dinner I booked was not included even though I asked the receptionist beforehand who said yes it was. Throughout the whole hotel process it seemed like they were trying to get money out of me at every corner. Throughout both nights at the hotel multiple waiters didn’t understand the process of the dinner being included and didn’t even know what menu was part of the hotel package. There is a massive lack in communication between hotel staff and the people staying. I checked out of the hotel with no outstanding bill but then receive an email later that night saying I owe a further £70 for the second dinner. This is AFTER the receptionist said our bill was cleared and we was free to go after checking out. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE from the hotel staff. Such a shame as the hotel had great potential but I’d recommend many others instead. Avoid if your looking for a package deal at all costs as these people have no clue how they are running it!!
Thanks so much for your constructive comments George. Clearly we didn’t ’hit the mark’ for your stay so please accept our sincere apologies. I am struggling to understand why you didn’t speak to a manager who could have resolve your concern. With regards to the package that you purchase, I am sure you would know what you bought as this would have been confirmed to you at time of booking and with emails prior to your arrival.
Anyway, thanks again for review.

Negative experience: TL;DR:Absolutely dishonest and best avoided. I booked this hotel expecting a straightforward half board experience—breakfast and dinner included, as is standard across the world. Instead, what I got was a masterclass in jiggery-pokery. Upon booking, the hotel advertised “half board.” Only after payment I received an email stating I’d get restaurant vouchers, valid only during my stay. At checkout, We are said that these vouchers could not be used for drinks—a fact that was never made clear upfront. It took the receptionist half an hour to finally confirm this, after much confusion and back-and-forth. When I contacted the hotel for clarification, they claimed the voucher restrictions were “clearly written” on their website. Yet, when pressed, they could not show me where. Their fallback was to say this was “common practice around the world,” which is simply not true. In most hotels, half board means your meals are provided, with drinks at dinner sometimes excluded, but this is always specified in advance—not hidden behind a voucher scheme. In reality, you pay £70 extra for two people to receive £70 in vouchers—use them or lose them, and drinks are excluded. This makes no sense. This is not half board; it’s a voucher game designed to mislead. If they were honest, instead of calling it “half board,” their booking page would say: “Would you like to exchange your £70 cash for £70 in no-change-given vouchers?” Of course, they know no one would ever be this naive, so they hide behind misleading language. To make matters worse, the “King Room” I booked was completely devoid of daylight. The room was gloomy and depressing, with no mention of this on the booking page. It is not about the money, but the disgusting behaviour. They clearly take advantage of guests who are there for rest and recreation, hoping people will overlook these “small” things. This is not just poor service—it’s a deliberate attempt to deceive and exploit. Absolutely disgusting.
Hi Ali, sorry to feel so aggrieved. I am not sure why you think that ‘half board’ would include drinks. You bought dinner, bed and breakfast. In many years of working in the hotel industry, this is the first time I have had’ this type of confusion. . Of course, perhaps you thought you had bought ‘all inclusive’ which does include drinks however that is not something that we offer our customers.
We are not dishonest and we are sorry that you have failed to understand what you had purchased

Positive experience: Nice but looks much nicer in the photos. Despite booking a couple of months ahead, I think we got the worst rooms. Over the gym and with a view of pool roofing and air ducts out the window. Noise from the gym and pool vents. No green view so felt pictures oversold it. Despite checking in early and saying I can’t sleep with aircon type noises, they said they couldn’t offer anything else (seems unlikely). Refused to let us leave early despite a 24 hour cancellation policy for the whole stay. Would not stay here again. If you get a view you expect, probably a whole different experience.
Thanks HG. We have a selection of room types, as you will see on our website. We tried to find u alternative rooms however this is the Easter holidays! I also suspect that you were advised that you wouldn’t get a refund, as you were on a non refundable rate if you left early, which is not the same as saying you can’t leave!
Sorry you weee disappointed

Positive experience: We've stayed at Castle Green on & off for 30+ years . Refurbished since our last ,pre COVID stay & vastly improved . Gardens looking wonderful too The staff have always been friendly and professional. Only negative this time , chaotic service in the restaurant on the first night ,long wait for expensive , mediocre food. We gave up waiting to order dessert at 9.40 when kitchen lights went out ! First time ever that we've had reason to complain . Alexanders on 2nd evening was excellent. One ' blip ' in 30+ years can be forgiven and we will definitely stay again .
Welcome back and hope to see you once again

Fantastic experience: Very happy overall with a few small points graceously offered for continuous improvement. Please take this 5 star review as such and these small points wouldn't stop us staying here in future. We stayed here for 2 nights (Fri/Sat). The hotel is set in lovely grounds, is well appointed, clean and well maintained. We did note that the flowers on display at the main entrance were dead on the Friday but on the Saturday had been replaced with fresh ones. Maybe remove them when they are past their best and have nothing on display rather than dead ones until new ones can be displayed. The breakfast on day 1 wasn't as good as it could have been. Whilst there was an excellent selection, the bacon had been overlapped in the cooking process such that only half the rasher was properly cooked (to my liking). Some may like their bacon fat white, but I like that to be crisp. Whilst I'm sure the sausages were of a safe temperature, they looked very lightly done with only a touch of colour to them. This may be down to personal preference but I swerved them on day 1. I mentioned to the waitress that the bacon and sausage could have done with a bit more cooking and was pleased to see on day 2 the bacon was all properly cooked and a little more colour evident on the sausage, such that I tried one. Unfortunately the sausage, for me at least, wasn't very nice and tasted a bit cheap. Everything else on the breakfast was lovely. The towel rail in the bathroom wasn't working so our towels remained wet, but a quick call to reception and a nice lady delivered some fresh towels 5 mins later. Top marks. The hotel is a £6-7 taxi ride from Kendal (shout out to Lakeside Taxis - download their app) and very easy to arrange so don't hesitate to book here if you think it's too far from Kendal town centre. All things considered, both myself and my wife enjoyed our stay here very much and would be happy to stay again when we come back to Kendal.
Many thanks for your review and hope to see you again soon

Fantastic experience: We stayed here several years ago and seeing an offer thought we would return so 2 rooms booked for 2 nights. Unfortunately, 2 of us were ill the day before travelling and on phoning to cancel we were offered the option to change dates which we thought very kind at such short notice, particularly as we had paid ahead This customer first approach was replicated throughout the stay, all of the staff are delightful - even those clearly new to thier jobs. The hotel must have been full, it was very busy but everything worked like clockwork. Rooms clean comfortable and pleasantly decorated- my only slight issue is that the pillows were somewhat thin. Soundproofing must be good, didn't hear a peep. We didn't have particularly high expectations for the food in such a busy hotel so we're pleasantly surprised to have a good dinner and even better breakfasts - it's all buffet but freshly made a great choices. Didn't use the pool but Mr G enjoyed the gym. The outside deck was also fab - drinks during sundown a highlight !
Hi Diane, delighted that you enjoyed your time with us and hope that we see you again soon

Positive experience: The hotel itself was beautiful. We had a Junior suite costing £231 but I didn't feel the room was worth this amount. We over looked the generators at the back of the building causing the room to be quite dark. We chose to eat in the restaurant where we found the food to be over priced for what we got. My husbands prawns were also forgotten on his main meal which had cost £42. There were set times to go in the pool and then you had to book between 5-7pm for lane use only so we never used this facility. The area and scenery were amazing but just some parts of our stay were a bit of a let down.
Many thanks for your review and appreciate your comments

Fantastic experience: We have stayed at this hotel before and it has been fabulous when we arrived we were told that the restaurant had gone A la carte 2 courses 35 pound and 3 courses 40 pound and it was a new menu you are seated near the window in the bar is another menu and Alexander bar has gone pizza and burgers we tried the A la carte restaurant and the food was really good and very tasty the next night we thought we would try Alexander bar it was awful don't know about the burgers but the pizza was over priced and disgusting in fact if you want a pizza would recommend domino's but apart from that we had a good time and will be back but not to Alexander bar
Many thanks Lisa for your kind words and hope to see you again

Positive experience: I attended an all-day event, including lunch here. The hotel was easy to find from the M6 Southbound, with no need to try navigating through Kendal. We were able to park with ease at the front of the hotel and noticed a bus stop directly out front of the hotel, too. The conference facilities were really good and spacious. We were provided with hot drinks, pastries, and cake through the day. There was an excellent buffet style hot lunch that was enjoyed by all. I felt a letdown by the afternoon when there was no toilet paper left and no hot water to accompany the vast variety of tea bags.
Thx Willow for ur review. Will resolve those issue and hope to see you soon

Fantastic experience: The staff were so friendly, everyone was happy to help with no hesitation. The food was to die for. I've travelled a lot and i have to admit the food is in top 10. If you've not been there, i would really recommend you to try it.

Positive experience: Good room, nice and clean. Fabulous breakfast, one of the best I've ever had! Great staff. Didn't use the pool. Dinner menu was a bit limited so didn't eat. Had one drink at the bar which was ridiculously expensive. £12 for a glass of merlot! Great location. Would be happy to stay again.
Thanks for the great review

Negative experience: Recently stayed here. Steam room not working was not told about this prior or on booking or checking in. Alexander’s the pub was shut for refurb it looks, again was not told this on booking or checking in. Our room walls and carpet was soaked through due to the windows leaking, leaving our belongings drenched. The pool is small and is also a public pool. The gym is also a public gym. The staff in the pool and gym are lovely. Reception staff are rude and not polite in any manner. Food amazing! Service in the restaurant and bar amazing! Day and night time absolutely gorgeous food and drinks. I would not say this is a spa hotel far from it.
Many thanks Charlene, we are certainly not a ‘Spa’ hotel. We have leisure facilities and treatment rooms. Steam room now working & Alexander’s opens in late March. Delighted that you enjoyed are food and beverage and hope to see you again

Fantastic experience: Large hotel just outside Kendal. We had a great 2 night stay. Quite affordable and a great breakfast for a buffet style, very tasty. The staff were helpful, we were assigned a normal double room when we had booked a king size, the receptionist sorted it straight away and then checked in with us later to make sure ok. We had an evening meal which was very good, the house burger was a solid choice and the fish cakes were good but not amazing. Good selection of drinks at the bar and staff all friendly. The guys in the fitness centre were brilliant and the gym and pool was great but you do have to reserve a 30 minute swim time at peak periods. They did have a faulty smoke sensor so we had a 5am Fire alarm and full hotel evacuation on both nights we stayed!! The staff did go out if the way to tell us that the faulty sensor had been identified and was being repaired that day. They did offer us a delayed check out but we had to drive up to Edinburgh. Will almost certainly use again
Hi David,
Thank you for your feedback, greatly appreciate your understanding regrading the fire alarms.
Look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Positive experience: I was very happy with this hotel. It was a family stay and we all enjoyed it. The staff, especially Will in the kitchen area were all lovely. That said, there was a chap called Diraj who was a bit robotic and not as welcoming but he was pleasant enough. The rooms were clean and a good size. The pool was nice and the changing rooms were clean. Parking was outstanding. The only thing that made this review a 4* and not a 5* was that there wasn't a good selection of food options on the menu. When we got there, we saw the menu and felt it was limited. Otherwise, we loved it.
Hi Jay,
Thank you for your feedback.
Glad you enjoyed your stay, look out for our new restaurant menu launching at the end of March.
Hope we see you again soon

Fantastic experience: Had a super nights stay here, a very well presented and cosy countryside hotel, very friendly staff, comfortable and very clean room with excellent facilities and one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had. Super fresh, good quality produce and a larger variety to suit everyone. Will definitely return.

Positive experience: Stayed for one night with my lovely wife and the thoughtful staff left us a little card and gift on the bed for us to find once we had checked in. The reviews talking about the outstanding service are pretty accurate, I am very impressed by the levels of enthusiasm and commitment to the cause shown by everyone working there. Whoever is in charge of recruitment and training is doing a wonderful job. The room was a king double and was clean airy and modern with nice touches, however our aircon wasn't working and in the night we had to open the windows (during storm Eowyn) but that was a minor aside. Bed and pillows spot on - very comfortable, decent size flat screen with all the main freeview channels. The room was immaculately clean, ditto the bathroom with sink and large mirror, with a bath and an adequate shower. Dove hand-wash, bodywash and shampoo are on tap so to speak. The public areas are clean and comfortable, contemporary and quiet and are nice areas to pass the time in. The pool and steam room are nice to uave, and after a days walking in the elements would offer a nice way to unwind. There is also a gym however I don't really do those, so couldn't comment. It looked well appointed though. Alexander's, the onsite pub was shut on the weekend we were there, so we ate in the restaurant. The staff again were very warm friendly and professional, and looked after us. Happy to make recommendations, service was prompt and the food itself, whilst not spectacular, was certainly properly cooked and presented. There is a decent wine list and drinks come from the bar that bridges reception and the restaurant. Breakfast was a fantastic sumptuous hotel-breakfast feast. My wife says the bacon and sausages were exceptional, I really enjoyed the vegetarian sausages (forgot to ask which brand they were - I need to find out). It is a gorgeous location, beautifully sited in lovely grounds with picturesque views of the rugged westmorland landscape. There is a nature trail leading from the hotel grounds and reception can advise on this and other adventures. Kendal itself isnt really awash with tourist attractions and isn't the prettiest town in the lakes by any stretch of, however, there is shopping and good transport connections with which to explore the lake district. Loved the hotel, would say again. Costs for and incurred during the stay were reasonable enough.
Many thanks for your review and we hope to see you again soon

Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel on the edge of Kendal with standards above it's rating. Great for corporate events. Good Health and Fitness suite and pool, (Pulse), also has a pub in the grounds. The hotel restaurant is understated with excellent food and reputation, and the pub, Alexander's, serves less formal eats and a good selection of beers and wines. The conference facilities are the best in the Kendal area. Also a very popular wedding venue.
Great to see you

Fantastic experience: Perfect from start to finish! The room was spacious and immaculate, every single member of staff was polite, friendly and very helpful. We only had breakfast but it was possibly the best hotel breakfast we've ever had, and the facilities were Incredible! The pool and gym were very well kept and being included in the price was a nice bonus! We both had a massage and it was fantastic. We are already planning a return visit!

Fantastic experience: Stayed for the Christmas break, plus an extra night. Was superb from beginning to end. As others have said, the service makes it really special. So does the food! The menus were really well thought out and innovative. The presentation was faultless. And the tastes and textures of everything we had was on a par with the best restaurants we have been to. Absolutely made our Christmas. Good singers and fun quiz too!

Fantastic experience: For the first time we decided to go away for a short break for Christmas , and found this lovely hotel. Great facilities ( nice size indoor pool, large steam room) , plenty of parking, great location just on the outskirts of Kendal. The staff were excellent, despite it being a hectic Christmas period really seemed to enjoy their work and were very hospitable from the receptionists to the housekeepers they were friendly and engaging. The restaurant and bar teams were equally welcoming. The food was excellent made with really high quality ingredients and everything was served at a nice pace across all our meals. Our room ( a standard double with garden view) was spacious and well appointed with an excellent shower, a very comfortable bed with quality linens and pillows , a mini fridge , safe, decent TV and lots of lighting options. Usb points built into the plugs made keeping devices charged easy. The room was quiet and had excellent quiet air conditioning. The whole hotel is extremely well looked after and clean and very well presented. This is a hotel I would definitely return to in the future and use as a base to explore more of the lake district.
Many thanks, JC for your great review of our hotel. We look forward to seeing you again soon and enjoy the rest of the festive season

Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel, we were surprised with a free upgrade to our room, the junior suite was very large with huge comfortable bed, bath and separate shower and many small additions in the room. Breakfast was very good, probably one of the best I've had from a hotel. The staff were all amazing, very helpful, friendly and all looked happy. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that would like to stay in Kendal.

Negative experience: MAKE SURE IF YOU BOOK A CHRISTMAS PARTY NIGHT AND ARE SERIOUSLY ILL YOU WONT RECEIVE ANY REFUND I had pneumonia advised them over 1 week before that I couldn’t go, they would not refund, give me a voucher for another time not even a partial refund, and wouldn’t let someone collect my meal to bring to me they said they are not insured for customers to take food away so I presume if you go for afternoon tea you must eat it all!? Castle Green asked for full payment 6 weeks before so just a note to anyone going this Christmas.. make sure you aren’t ill or even seriously ill as you won’t receive a penny back
Many thanks, Jo, for your feedback. You describe the process correctly albeit this actually happened in 2023. We are committed to our suppliers and employees to pay our dues, similar to our guests. Our terms and conditions clearly state there are no refunds and you should take out insurance, just as you would with a Summer holiday.

Fantastic experience: Visited from Glasgow. What a brilliant hotel, with very attentive, friendly staff from start to finish. Decent rooms, decent Christmas decor throughout, certainly felt in the festive spirit staying here this weekend. Superb location for Kendal and a good base for the rest of the Lakes and just a 20 min drive to Lake Windermere. Bar area, very cosy feel, hotel restaurant had a decent menu and the Pub outside, Alexanders, had great food (visited both nights). Staff in Alexanders, including the restaurant manager were so friendly and just gave the place a very relaxed vibe! (Appreciated the advice on where to have a good night out in Kendal!) All round a very good, relaxing stay and already talking about bringing family members back with us next time. Shoutout to the guy working at breakfast this morning who gave us our tea and coffee and was clearing tables (didn’t get his name), a great asset to your hotel team and a credit to the BW name. Only down side, if I was asked, was the shower temperature wasnt very stable, scorching hot to cold throughout the time having a shower. But won’t put us off returning. Thanks Castle Green and Team.
Thx Neil, delighted that you had a great weekend. We look forward to welcoming you back soon

Fantastic experience: The staff were very nice and helpful. The room was lovely, A bit odd having a step to get into the bath but novelty. There is a walk in shower too for those who couldn't manage to get into it. Such an amazing view from our room (executive suite 139). Food in the restaurant was great but maybe a bit over priced especially the starters. However the service from the staff was amazing, nothing any trouble and so polite. Overall a relaxing stay for us. We didn't go to the pub or pool but it looked great.
Thanks Louise, delighted that you had a wonderful time. Look forward to seeing you again soon

Fantastic experience: Such a lovely hotel in a beautiful location, we were welcomed by Joanne in reception who was so friendly and helpful,we had arrived earlier,so she apologised that she couldn't get us in our room any earlier, but offered to put our luggage in reception whilst we went and had a drink in the pub on site, which is very pretty, and had games to keep you occupied and staff were lovely there. We ate in the restaurant, food was very tasty and one of the staff Shelly stood out she was very friendly and chatty and made us feel very comfortable. There was also Heather on reception who was again very friendly, chatty and helped us with any questions we had. We will definitely be staying again, room was great, clean and spacious.

Fantastic experience: We had our wedding here and we couldn't have picked a better venue at all, such a wonderful hotel with incredibly accommodating staff and exceptional service. We'd like to give a special mention to Hanna and Christine who made the whole day run smoothly and not a single thing could have made it any more perfect. The rooms are fantastic with everything you need and the 'Garden View' rooms are absolutely stunning. We ate in the restaurant and at Alexanders, the onsite pub, and both have excellent food and service. This place has become somewhere very special to us and we can't wait to come and stay again.

Positive experience: Lovely hotel. The bed was comfy and the room was lovely and clean. Staff were really friendly and prices for drinks were reasonable. Just one slight niggle, the room was clearly only set up for one person (there were two of us). Staff were quick to provide us with an extra towel when we asked, but slightly disappointing. Wouldn't put me off staying again and would definitely recommend.

We have always loved this Sunday deal which includes dinner and breakfast. You can access the pool, sauna and gym if you wish. Choose to have dinner at the restaurant or onside pub Alexander's, food is always fantastic. Breakfast is outstanding with lots of choices. 15-20min drive to Windermere and Bowness. Fantastic experience: Fantastic hotel for visiting Kendal and South Lakes, very comfortable hotel, we upgraded to a garden view room with king size bed, very good choice indeed. Receptionist ( Heather ) was exceptional, very helpful, friendly and informative, nothing was to much trouble. All staff we encountered were excellent, Heather was who we seemed to deal with directly. The gardens are immaculate. The hotel has a spa and swimming pool, we didn't have time to use these facilities this time but will do so when we next visit. Breakfast in the hotel was just excellent a great start to a days exploring. We dined in the 'Alexandria' next door to the hotel for our evening meal, again excellent service and wonderful meals. Would highly recommend if staying in the area.

Fantastic experience: Really nice hotel, good location as a base for cycling around the Lake District. The food was all good quality, particularly breakfast. There’s a secure area near the bins for storing bicycles that the staff can open for you. Only downside is the lobby often stinks of cigarette smoke as they’ve positioned the smoking area right outside the main door.

Positive experience: The reason for the visit was for a wedding. It was a superbly organised and presented event one of the best I’ve been to. I did feel that it was expensive when it came to the basic food and drink in the onsite pub but 2 pints and 3 malt whiskeys at £68 definitely overpriced. The rooms were comfortable once we moved from the east wing which was slightly bigger but left us feeling out of touch with other guests, It was also more expensive darker with only one window and looked over the car park. The staff are an excellent lot helpful friendly and couldn’t do enough. It was as weddings are a great event but I don’t think I will return unless they find the glasses I lost.
Many thanks for your review and look forward to welcoming you back

Positive experience: Stayed for 5 nights in June. Lovely hotel except for advertising rooms as having air conditioning when it wasn't working. Paid extra for a hotel with air conditioning in the rooms and received no discount for it being broken the entire stay. Management not bothered when this was raised. Bit of a scam really.
Many thanks Fir ur review Pete. 50% of the hotel has Ac/heating units. One unit, supplying 8 room was broken. Not a scam, just a broken controller unit. Let me have ur details and we will process a refund.
