Our comment from Gimnasios Fitness about Hastings Pier:

Hastings Pier offers a unique blend of scenic views and relaxation, making it a great destination for visitors to Hastings. The spacious and modern design, rebuilt after a fire, prioritizes accessibility with smooth pathways and facilities for all. Many users have praised the pier for its beautiful views, especially during sunset and sunrises, providing perfect photo opportunities. Visitors can enjoy a stroll along the wide boardwalk while indulging in delectable offerings at the nearby cafes and eateries, such as the cozy 'Rustic Food Co' known for its delicious Moroccan meatballs.

Although some facilities and attractions might be closed or lacking in variety during off-peak seasons, there are still charming spots to sit and enjoy the coastal breeze. On busy days, the atmosphere at the pier can be lively, especially during music events and festivals that offer entertainment. Montoring the opening times of the attractions could enhance the experience, as several users noted that some activities and eateries were not fully operational during their visit.

In summary, while Hastings Pier is currently facing challenges with limited attractions and some areas needing improvement, it remains a worthwhile visit for peaceful strolls, scenic views, and occasional events. The friendly staff and calming environment hit the mark for those looking to unwind by the sea.

Hastings Pier: Opinions

4.1/5 (200 Opinions)
John Hickmott 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Great pier to visit has spotty opening times esp in winter though stunning to see especially at sunset

Cornfields Dancing 3 months ago

Positive experience: The pier is very large and operates as much as an exhibition space these days. Not much shelter when there is wind and rain, so best to head for the cafe on the Pier for a welcome warm coffee.

Ali Rahman 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: nice place to eat and relax and get a scenic view

David Lewis 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: Fantastic place to Visit especially when there is Music Playing ( Again Under Sale 2025 Oct )

Clare 4 months ago

Negative experience: Absolutely nothing on the pier anymore. Only benefit at the moment is that it's a good point to stand & get a photo of the seafront. Hope someone can make use of it & give Hastings back a lively pier

Dave 5 months ago

Positive experience: Although going through a sticky time at the moment. A walk on Hastings pier is a must if you are visiting this town

Stuart Hall 5 months ago

Positive experience: What a wasted opportunity! Whilst it is good that the old pier re-opened and is in use again with free entry, there are few attractions and (in my view) the whole place is stark and ugly. Surely, there was the opportunity to host more small retail and craft outlets and bring some life to the structure? As it is, all there is to visit is a vast area of boarding.

Holly Deacy 5 months ago

Negative experience: Rides seem very old and dangerous, very expensive really not worth going I wish the pier was put to better use such a shame and a waste of a new pier

Mark Buet 5 months ago

Positive experience: Free to enter and we'll maintained. A kiddies funfair at entrance not in use looked forlorn but new cafe influenced by original building impressive with pictures of old per and some history. Blue plaque info trail on side railings brief but informative. End of pier a mess with closed of fencing and before this wooden picnic benches and unemployed bins. Interesting street food shacks but not open. Worth a visit as free and piers need visitors to survive

Trish Small 5 months ago

Positive experience: Not much to see. Good views of the beach, but nothing open on the pier.

William-Paul Elliott 5 months ago

Positive experience: Could do with some facilities, or amusements. Although its a loveky area to sit in the sun!

Chris Stewart 5 months ago

Positive experience: We were passing the Pier & my partner had Urgent need of the toilet facilities. Unbelievably they were all locked !! Sadly, there was very little to entice you onto the Pier. Such a shame that a once local attraction has fallen into a sad decline.

Jamie Thomson 5 months ago

Positive experience: Needs some TLC but still worth a walk along for the views. Amusements and rides, indoor cafe and outdoor range of international food, bar although most were closed when we went

Jaynesara65 5 months ago

Negative experience: Very disappointing, nothing open on the pier. What a waste if opportunity

Jon Cook 6 months ago

Negative experience: Lots of wasted space, the owner clearly doesn’t care about this place and it’s a real shame as it has amazing potential.

Ann Bullen 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Bank Holiday the pier was very busy the cafe on the right as you enter was full and great atmosphere

Ashraf Ali 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Great morning views

Leon Medhurst 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Very nice pier, lots of food and places to grab a drink or a cofee

chris giles 6 months ago

Negative experience: Filthy litter everywhere.. looks unkept..The kids rides closed by 7pm nothing else to attract people on Hastings Pier at all

Christopher Smart 6 months ago

Positive experience: Seems to be falling into decline really. A few children's rides, a couple of over priced eateries, and that's all. The end of the pier is a mess

Jon Ferris 6 months ago

Positive experience: Needs a refurb. Always take old shoes to walk on the beach.

Andrew Gale 6 months ago

Positive experience: Went on a Monday in August, beautiful weather, I expected it to be busy. So I was surprised at how empty the pier . Most of the booths were closed. Very sad to see.

Julie Griffith 6 months ago

Positive experience: Had a lovely walk along the pier. Unfortunately, we went to Hastings on a Monday and all the shops are the pier were closed.

T Hartberg 6 months ago

Positive experience: A Thursday morning in August was not a good time to visit this historic Pier. It was mostly abandoned and the best part is the view to the Hastings beaches on either side. We had been here in the 1980s when the Pier was much livelier and more impressive. Hastings Pier was built in 1872. It suffered major storm damage in 1990, and was closed to the public for a time before closing completely in 2008. 95% of the pier was destroyed by a fire in 2010. After a major rebuilding project, the pier reopened in April 2016 but has not regained its former glory.

jason stephenson 6 months ago

Positive experience: We got ice creams on the pier. The food shops were nice and clean and the kids had fun playing on the pier

Sharmin Choudhury 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: perfect place for a beach family outing.

Jane Bolton 6 months ago

Negative experience: We came here at lunchtime on a Monday in August. The tumbleweed was almost in evidence. We tried to go to Casa de la Pier for lunch. 4 adults and 3 children. We were told there was a 30 min wait for food and that we should have booked! It was barely 10% full! So we went to the chicken and hot dog stand. The food was good and OK on price. Some paper napkins would have been useful. We were going to let the kids go on the mini rollercoaster but at £34 decided not to bother. The worst bit was, no shade, shame on you Hastings Council, for not allowing parasols. On a 27 degree Celccius day shde is vital. Either this is a destination for families or it isn't. Currently it isn't. In the evening it is probably fine but still not for kids.

James Ashcroft 6 months ago

Negative experience: The pier itself is lovely but don’t bother with the funfair. 2 minutes on the bungee trampoline for 4 quid is not really acceptable

Nicola Longworth 6 months ago

Negative experience: Warning about the rides! Prices have gone up, no more blue light and adults have to pay to go on. £8 for a quick go on the roller coaster. Sandpit in the photos cost £2 even though there's a free one in the old town playground. Absolute con now.

Louise D 7 months ago

Negative experience: Abysmal rides. Never again will I put my kids on those "death traps" There are about 5 rides, the teacups barely held together with tape, the 2 boats in a paddling pool are falling apart, the trampoline hardly bounces and your lucky if one of the bungee cords doesn't take your kids eye out. You even have to pay to play in the sand pit (although atleast you get a wrist band so you can come and go and play in it all day) The staff are polite enough but look like they would rather be anywhere else but there and I don't blame them. The hook a duck was about the only half decent thing there. There was only one shed open and the pier was dead which you wouldn't expect in the middle of summer holidays on a warm summers day. Such a shame.

Xben 1978 7 months ago

Negative experience: £1 per token for rides (If you can call them that) each ride £4 per person. Hook a duck, £4 per person!!! A ride for 5 people on the caterpillar cost £20 and lasted 2-3 minutes. We also paid for 50 tokens which says you get 7 tokens free and were told they don’t have any free tokens. That doesn’t even make sense. Would not come back. Totally understand why it was dead in mid August!!! The council really should do something about this. Surely puts people off having a holiday in Britain. Disappointing

Khandker Saadiqul Quader 7 months ago

Positive experience: Hastings Pier is known for its rich heritage that dates back to 1872. We visited Hastings with the aim to spend fair amount of time in the pier and enjoy the serene flow of water hitting the coastline. The water is exquisitely clean and blue with dedicated swimming areas that have lifeguards from 10am to 6pm. There are lots of attractions surrounding the Hastings Pier.

Nicola calvert 7 months ago

Fantastic experience: Good in the summer there is some rides for the kids and the restaurant has nice food and a good service. Also nice to walk along and great views.

Joshua Habgood 7 months ago

Positive experience: Great to be at the seaside and go to a pier but only one beach hut out of about 6 open selling food. Lovely sausage and chips though!

Lemmy Morgan 7 months ago

Positive experience: I really enjoyed my visit to Hastings Pier. It’s a calm and peaceful spot with little to no noise, which makes it perfect if you're looking for a quiet place to relax or reflect. Unlike the more commercial and busier Eastbourne Pier, Hastings Pier feels more open and laid-back. It’s not as wide or crowded, but that actually worked in my favour because I wanted a quieter experience. There are places on and near the pier to grab something to eat, and the nearby beach is just a few steps away. It wasn’t overcrowded when I visited, which added to the relaxed atmosphere. The views out to sea are beautiful and the breeze is refreshing. It’s a great place to sit and just enjoy the scenery. One thing to note is that the pier is right next to a fairly busy road, so getting there can be a bit hectic. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially during peak times, so visitors should plan ahead or consider using public transport if possible. Overall, I had a lovely time and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a slower, quieter seaside experience.

Positive experience: Lovely spot, good restaurants with atmosphere. Car park was tricky to get in , but that's the best bet for parking. Bring two pound coins for pay and display.

Mary MacEwen 7 months ago

Negative experience: Visited Hastings Pier with a group of people and was very disappointed. A young person in our group was harangued by an extremely rude women for touching a rope. She shouted at him in an aggressive and threatening way shouting that she would have him banned from the Pier. I spoke to her later and said that there was no need to be rude and aggressive, she then proceeded to shout at me telling me to get off the pier too. Great public relations!! Not a good advertisement for Hastings and none of us will bother coming back.

Fantastic experience: Perfect Spot for Night Fishing — Hastings, UK Spent an amazing night fishing on the beach in Hastings — tent set up, rods in the water, and a sky full of stars. Super peaceful atmosphere, calm sea, and minimal light pollution. It’s a great spot to disconnect from the noise and just enjoy the moment. ✅ Pros: – Great for night fishing and camping – Beautiful view of the coast and city lights in the distance – Quiet and spacious area – Relaxing sea sounds all night ⚠️ Heads-up: it’s a rocky beach, so bring a mat or something soft for your tent. If you’re looking for a calm night by the sea — highly recommended!

Darren Field 7 months ago

Positive experience: In a great location, lovely wide spacious pier with not a lot going on. Couple of places for food, drink and ice creams and some kiddies rides and that’s it. Nice view of the coastline but that’s it. Some small pop up shops that were closed.

Florin Maftei 8 months ago

Fantastic experience: Nice place for fishing in the night time. Homefix4you employers team have a nice night fishing

S H 8 months ago

Positive experience: The view from the pier is lovely. Unfortunately, not much was open, and it was the hottest day of the year as of June 2025. Many of the children's rides have been removed, but you still need to buy tokens for the two that remain. Great location with not a lot going on.

Bert “RCJ” 8 months ago

Fantastic experience: Beautiful places to visit with your family.

jack Watson epic 8 months ago

Fantastic experience: Just a normal Pier with seating areas all over and children's rides but the view is fantastic the promenade is pedestrian and for push bikes so you have got to be really careful because some of the bikes don't use the lane which is designated for them

Yi Zheng 8 months ago

Fantastic experience: A charming seaside town with history and character. Take the cliff lift for stunning views, wander among fishing boats, and enjoy a drink at one of the cozy pubs by the shore. Peaceful, atmospheric, and perfect for a slow day trip.

aswathy suresh 9 months ago

Fantastic experience: Charming Coastal Town with a Cozy Vibe Hastings is such a lovely seaside town full of character and history. The Old Town is cozy and full of charm, with great little pubs and shops. The food scene is surprisingly good, and the bar(ye Olde Plumphouse) we visited was warm and welcoming—great atmosphere and delicious bites. Don’t miss the castle ruins or the funicular for stunning views. A perfect mix of history, sea, and chill vibes. Would definitely visit again!

R Morris 9 months ago

Positive experience: Can't fault the structure itself. Offering good space and views. But somewhat underwhelming on a May weekend. Food and drink places on the right as going in and elevated centre section looked reasonably popular. A few children amusements and rides near the entrance. But most of the hut businesses closed. And bottom end fenced off. Lack of ambience esp compared to Eastbourne and Brighton pier offerings.

Louise Robbins 9 months ago

Positive experience: Not always open these days, so not the pleasure it used to be. When it is it's full of kids rides, small eateries, has toilets, coffee, cafe and alcohol. Oh and you can walk on it and enjoy being out on the sea too, if there isn't a music event going on at the end!

Istvan Biro-Kelemen 9 months ago

Fantastic experience: Cool place to chill out. The town should utilize this place better

All Possibilities Travel 10 months ago

Positive experience: Hastings Pier offers a unique and modern seaside experience. Rebuilt after a devastating fire, it now stands as a spacious platform, perfect for strolling and enjoying the sea views. The open design prioritizes accessibility with smooth, level pathways throughout, making it very wheelchair friendly. Accessible toilets are also available. You'll find a contemporary visitor center, and often various events and food vendors pop up, adding to its appeal as a flexible public space. While some recent events have faced scrutiny regarding safety and organization, the pier itself remains a welcoming and accessible landmark.

MGX93dot 10 months ago

Negative experience: Naff, in all honesty. Bare bones. I know old England had a fascination with piers, and funnily enough they all burn down, but why they bother spending millions to fund their restoration is beyond me. Their time is done with.

Matthew Brookes 10 months ago

Positive experience: Brilliant views of a lovely clean sea and beach ⛱️ all the usually stuff you expect on a pier including amusement arcades toilets on there eating places lots of disabled access available parking in the main town a lovely place the visit beautiful people and so friendly

Theo Denton 10 months ago

Positive experience: Nice spot but out of season really run down. Could be a great place in the on season but definitely needs revamping.

John Linuel Tenido 11 months ago

Positive experience: The pier offers stunning sea views, a spacious boardwalk, and a minimalist design that emphasizes open space and versatility. It’s a great spot for a peaceful stroll and to enjoy the coastal scenery.

Fantastic experience: Had an amazing relaxed time on the pier with samphire saunas, super friendly lady on reception, so chilled and great experience

Jane Scanlan 1 year ago

Positive experience: We visited on a wonderfully sunny day, everything was closed apart from the bar on the pier. It's a sad place, it feels like a very deprived area. However the sea looked really inviting but I didn't have my dipping gear with me!

johnny mcjohnjohn 1 year ago

Positive experience: Fun little pier, Rum shed bar with roof terrace. Very nice.

Alisha Patel 1 year ago

Positive experience: Was a little sad spoke to some vendors on the pier and said that the leaseholder has increased their rent, there was barely anyone around that day. No idea how these small businesses are able to make money. We came for a weekend get away from London. The beaches were nice, but it wasn’t buzzing. That’s probably why these business owners are struggling. The council and the pier owners should be working together to put Hastings on the Map.

Andrew Steel 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I love a pier, being able to walk out to sea. How many piers have a couple of saunas on them? And a huge open-air music venue. At low tide the underside is beautiful.

Dan Clarke 1 year ago

Negative experience: Great view? would be if there weren't chemical toilets blocking the view all summer. What a disappointment!

Judith Bailey 1 year ago

Negative experience: Visited the first week in September and all I can say is that this is the most depressing pier. Most old piers are a nice place for a stroll and a view. This one is obviously just there to make money during the summer. Once the kids are back at school everything shuts down. I feel sorry for the locals and those who visit out of season.

Gemma Moss 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Just love this place in the summer especially the rum shed

Fantastic experience: Modern, clean, amenities available with food and drink bar. Children's rides available. Venues available on certain dates by organisers with amenities and security.

Christophe PFERTZEL 1 year ago

Positive experience: We visited the pier on a rainy weekday, and even if the amusement park was closed and the half end of the pier was fenced (renovation works ? Weather ?), it is a good place to enjoy the view of the city and the sea. You can have a drink at the café located at the entrance, a perfect indoor spot to warm you up when it's windy and raining.

Daniel Dobson 1 year ago

Positive experience: The Pier is close to the station, and well built. The people in the cafe and restaurant were friendly and nice. I came for the Reggae festival which I enjoyed, however (not related to the Pier) the sound system wasn't setup to be loud enough for everyone to hear and so I left early. I liked Hastings, and it's Pier. Good vibes.

Debbie Croke 1 year ago

Negative experience: Went to reggae in Hastings on the Pier. Was OK I suppose , nothing to write home about .! Brought vip tickets , very disappointed as music was distant, no speakers up there, couldn't see anything either. 2 people at the bars , long old ques and toilets ridiculous. V I P or normal.. jokes!! Couldn't leave the Pier to get my jacket from car so.... don't rate it!

Matthew Rowland 1 year ago

Positive experience: Was half closed for work and no one around. However good views of Hastings

Stu Radley 1 year ago

Positive experience: Best described as minimalist. Nice to look at but not much to do. Theres a cafe and a few little stalls/huts although opening times are a bit patchy. Lovely views across the beach and further west towards Eastbourne.

Honest Review 1 year ago

Positive experience: Not much to do on the actual pier itself but the cafe at the start is nice and clean and very welcoming.

Angie Beresford-Slinn 2 years ago

Negative experience: Very inhospitable place. No public toilets or regular activities to entertain. Lots of litter about and no bins.

franz singh khela 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: So it is a very nice small Pier and you can enjoy it for sure, doesn't Matter if u r there with Ur GF or FAMILY. But to the Beach itself i hate (don't like it) cause it is with that small stones. So there is no sand but everyone is different but for sure to go in SUMMER or WINTER. PS: hear & feel the Noise of the Sea you will feel relaxed & calm

Christine Cheverall 2 years ago

Positive experience: I went during a quieter time, when the kids rides and most of the stalls weren't open. Good variety of things on there, but needs more benches! I also miss the ease in getting fishing tickets so you could fish off the pier.

Andrew Gills 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: The pier is free to enter things for the children to do plenty of seating and plenty of places to get drinks and snacks

Bill B 2 years ago

Positive experience: Not one of the best piers on the south coast, but not too bad. Has a few eating places, amusements and at times music events.

Karen B 2 years ago

Positive experience: The pier isn't open as much as others on the coast. It closes over winter and the majority of it is closed during music festivals, despite it being one of the main tourist attractions in Hastings.

Christina Drust 2 years ago

Positive experience: Nice place to visit but you are not allowed to smoke or bring outside food on the pier. Restaurants are overpriced so i guess you could sit on the bench while picking a place in the area to eat. Toilets were clean the last time visited. Not sure when the little huts are open.

Andy 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: 5 stars only because I haven't seen such a wide pier yet ;) ;) Other than that, not much to do , quick visit and went off.

Fantastic experience: Nice view but 365 days windy place. Worth to walk and feel the breeze and view the Hastings city

Daniel AM 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: A nice place to take photos of the sea, hang around, have a snack or coffee. In the summer with mild or no wind it's a good place to see the Sun down. There are concerts from time to time on the pier. Car parks aren't far away. The beach has nice sands and just couple of minutes walk. The city center and train station is aproximately 15 minutes walk. Along the sea side road you'll find shops, restaurants, take aways and grocery stores.

Fantastic experience: Shout out to the Donut man on Hastings pier. Lovely chap to talk to whilst purchasing some sugary treats on our Pilgrims Hospice training walk. Kindly donated to our challenge. We popped £10 in the pot, thank you . We made it to Rye and completed a total of 24.2 miles. Our sugary treats certainly helped us up the cliff and through the country park. Thank you Lovely clean looking pier too

Fantastic experience: A nice wide pier with plenty of room and some seating at the bottom. Currently very empty with only a few rides at the entrance. There's an upper viewing area with glass that's quite nice and shielded from the wind. Great for taking photos from and you're able to see the " old " pier if you look over the end.. Dogs are currently allowed on the pier which is unusual. ( March 23 ).

Fantastic experience: By far the best outdoor venue in the South East! (Weather permitting) Had many visits over the summer, day and night. Atmosphere is brilliant, entertainment and live music has been fantastic! Mostly free events, affordable if not, family friendly, drink and food outlets, toilets, plenty of benches, the view is stunning - if you haven't been you absolutely should!

Fantastic experience: A very charming dock with many leisure options, lovely views. A good place to have a drink and watch the sunset, concerts or a good chat with friends. If you like to fish, many people do it from this pier. When we went we also found a small fair with attractions for children. At the end of the pier you can also see information about the pier and other types of things about everything that has to do with fauna, boats that are in the area. A must visit without a doubt

Gareth Evans 3 years ago

Positive experience: Had a nice walk and great to get a different perspective of Hastings. Some small retail outlets added interest, toilets there and a bar at the far end. Was jealous of the fishermen spending a peaceful afternoon there

Positive experience: Cute pier, not a whole lot to do but we did find a hidden gem. You must go to Rustic Food Co!! Their homemade Moroccan meatballs are simply divine (see pic) and the beatroot hummus is very yummy. Wish we lived closer so we could have those meatballs on a weekly basis.

Fantastic experience: Mayday Motorcycle Run 2022. Probably best to go by train if you are not riding a motorbike. Traffic is very bad getting in.

Liam Stone 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Lots of improvements made on the pier in the last few years. A fair amount of traders and small fair on entry to the pier. I would advise going all the way to the end to get the best view

Tim Ngwena 3 years ago

Positive experience: Great spacious pier with plenty of activity for kids and family along with plenty of seating. Great pit stop if your walking the seafront.

Emma Bull 4 years ago

Positive experience: Very wide and long pier. Amazing dance steps on the decking, teaching you how to waltz with a partner, fun! Good views and interesting information about wildlife and bits of interest about the peer. Most of the vending huts were shut, I guess for winter. We were very lucky with weather. Dog ice cream went down a treat for our labradoodle!

Failing at Pessimism 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: I cycled here from Eastbourne. I sat on a bench enjoying the sunset. I really wanted to eat 100g Sainsbury's smoked salmon I had with me. But people kept passing me and I didn't want to look feral in front of them. I had to leave before it was too dark to return home with my snack intact.
