Fantastic experience: Spent christmas at Aldwark in Southlodge. Absolutely fantastic in every regard. This is our 5th time visiting and we will most certainly he back. The upgrades have made what was already a great hotel, lavish and spectacular. All the team were great and couldnt be more accomodating. Special shout out to Oliver in the restaurant who worked all three days over christmas and made each meal time a joy. Thank you to all the team for an amazing stay. The Needham party.

Fantastic experience: This is a truly special Gem in North Yorkshire. The location is fantastic if you’re looking to explore the area - with York and Harrogate being only a stones throw away. The rooms are all great, but if you can push the boat out, the deluxe rooms are all individually decorated on their own floor with access to the library. They’re stunning and will blow you away. The wider estate is glorious and has lots of great places to go for a walk to burn off the amazing food and wine from the in house restaurants. Looking forward to returning to try the brilliant new spa.

Fantastic experience: A little off the beaten track but a superb quality hotel. The room was spotless and well equipped , the bed was super comfortable and warm. Didn’t get to use the spa unfortunately. Breakfast was delightful and every staff member we encountered were just so welcoming and informative. Only downside- the golf course was closed because of the terrible rainy weather we’ve had. I will definitely return.

Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel! The interior is tastefully decorated, with attention to detail. The rooms are spacious, clean, and cozy—they have everything you need for a comfortable stay: a hairdryer, iron, and ironing board. You can also turn on the heat and connect your phone to the TV to watch YouTube or Netflix. The delicious food, especially the hearty breakfasts, was a special treat. The hotel grounds are beautiful, offering scenic views, fresh air, and plenty of walking options, including a golf course. Its location away from the city makes it ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy peace and nature. The staff is very friendly and attentive, always ready to help. The price was a pleasant surprise — for that price, we got excellent service and luxurious accommodations. I recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a quiet, cozy, and comfortable stay.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful location. Parking was difficult due the ongoing building works, but what an amazing building this is. Used the conference facilities which were spot on. I am looking forward to visiting again when the works have been completed.

Negative experience: We went a wedding at this so called amazing hotel!!! The wedding was great, but the staff ,and what you get for your money a joke.we had a superior room # Don't think so, tea and coffee scarce one biscuit each if your lucky, the smallest of shower jel bottles, take your own,we went down for breakfast at nine ,waiting for 20 mins just 4 coffee which was horrendous no fancy stuff here just bland.the pass with continental food on it never got replenished in the whole hour and half we were in ,yes it took 50 mins for a cooked English, not that great. Premiere inn is far superior better choice aswell.and we were ignored so much ,we will never go back to this establishment, poor service ,cba waiting staff ,for £300 per night shocking.

Fantastic experience: Stayed here for two nights and we loved it. Luckily it was a nice summer afternoon so we made use of the terrace and enjoyed a nice drink. We also opted for a wine tasting session with a difference and we loved it. The wine room has various wines that you can enjoy at your own leisure and top up should you need to. It was an experience Rooms were spacious and clean Deco is awesome Bed very comfortable so what more can you ask for Breakfast was great with an large variety and also tasty. We be returning again

Really beautiful hotel.

Fantastic experience: Love this place, visit here about once a month for a night away, the Wensleydale suite is amazing with the added private hot tub, check in staff and always very polite and welcoming. The bar is great and has a great selection of drinks and they have Yorkshire crisps that the awesome! Always buy more to take home! Staff great in here too! Over my many visits have eaten in both Bunkers and Elements, the menu in Bunkers is more suited to our tastes, bar food but mostly eat in Elements so we can get dressed up! Service and food is great in both places, not a tasting menu person so not tried Chartwell. Can’t wait for the Spa to open.

Negative experience: Booked a twin room, there’s no ac. The whole room was boiling and smells like manure. Asked for a room change and we don’t mind paying for an upgrade. Then the workers said “all and every single room was taken”. Which then we check online and there’s at least 10 rooms available she just can’t be bother to help. Luckily 10 mins later it was a different person in the reception, again he lied and said no room available. then we showed him the online booking and he retracted what he originally said and we paid for a upgrade.

Positive experience: Food was good generally no fish options available. Had to return breakfast as was not hot and then fried eggs were hard, suggest probably under heat lamp. Occasionally had to wait for attention to be seated. Stayed 4 nights and bathroom was not replenished with toilet paper and toiletries. Grounds beautifully kept and quiet. Slept well.

Fantastic experience: Great hotel lovely big rooms, nice breakfast. We stayed in the Bunkers building which was great apart from the noise levels the noise insulation between rooms felt non-existent. Any movement, conversation or bathroom usage was very clearly heard, not sure if it is like this in the main hotel or not but certainly in the bunkers area. Loved the greatest showman bar staff were great too.

Fantastic experience: Aldwark Manor is an absolute gem. Attended as part of a conference and was blown away by the gorgeous building – both inside and out. The elegant interior perfectly complements the stunning exterior, creating a truly impressive setting. Would happily return for a round of golf, and with three tempting eateries on-site, I’d genuinely struggle to pick which one to try next. Highly recommend for both business events and leisure visits! Be looking forward to see the spa shape up!

Fantastic experience: What a great place to stay. Really impressive building, tastefully decorated, very clean with a wonderful quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Our room was better than expected and very comfortable. Wide choice of foods on offer for breakfast and in the restaurants. Had a couple of light meals in the bar cooked and presented well. Finally a big thank you to all the staff who couldn't have been more professional, friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. A real gem

Fantastic experience: Stayed for three nights with my wife on a short break. Room was lovely and the staff were friendly and attentive, they sorted any queries and a minor fault with the tv very quickly and refreshingly actually seemed concerned that we had something not as it should be. Nice to have some empathy. Great service from the reception team. I felt however, that sometimes they were multi tasking or covering each others breaks etc. as a few times I had to wait for someone to be at reception or to tend bar- even going off to find staff to serve me or seek people out. But I was never waiting too long, just seems like most places now the staff were overstretched which affects the service and more over their well being. (One ste off for this but that is for the management of service the people themselves were 5 stars!) The food was lovely, we ate breakfast and evening meals at the hotel, although the £10 tart charge for room service is excessive. The grounds are lovely and you can stroll around. Close to some lovely villages and not far from York. Was super clean and well kept and would come back when the spa is re-opened (it was being renovated when we stayed).

Fantastic experience: We love this place. It's quite out the way but only about 30mins to York. First time we stayed we regretted only staying for 1 night before heading to York to stay. For the time it takes to travel into the city we should've stayed longer. We did that this time. We stayed in the manor suite. It was amazing. The staff are all lovely, especially in the dining room at breakfast time. We were planning on a trip to Leeds next and will probably stay here again and travel in. It's such a nice place to be.

Fantastic experience: Set in beautiful surroundings, the slightly uninspiring exterior of the hotel hides a rather glamorous and luxurious interior. Peaceful and laid back, this would be a great romantic weekend getaway. There's a golf course and a spa, which is newly refurbished I'm told. Although I didn't see it. Next time.

Positive experience: Had one night away in the Manor Room suite. The room was gorgeous, clean and comfortable. Could not fault the room. Where this place dropped the ball was the restaurant and bar service. We had to wait for a bartender to show up and despite being on the menu she didnt know how to make a dirty martini. There was also confusion on her double charging the drinks to our room even though we paid for them at the bar. We booked a meal and overnight stay package and was excited to try the elements restaurant. It was not a packed restaurant by any means...but it took over 2 hours to be served a starter and a main. We had to get up from our table and find someone to order drinks, a round which never came but we were charged for. Simple things like asking for ketchup that never came they just lacked attention to detail. We also asked for a desert menu that never arrived and after waiting for so long we gave up and asked for the bill. We were told they would knock the mains off the bill as an apology for the poor service. That was a nice gesture but made no difference to us as it was part of the package deal we booked. We also considered getting room service to bring up desert but had no faith it would actually happen. To be honest the meal was good but not a restaurant to write home about. We would want stay here again bc they actual hotel and grounds are amazing but the restaurant service really put us off. At a 4* hotel you deserve 4* service..

Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel with great staff and delicious food, rooms are lush with an extremely comfy bed & pillows and I'm fussy. Molton Brown toiletries, Taylors coffee and decent milk, can't wait to come back when the spa opens, definitely recommend staying here, if you're in the area.

Fantastic experience: Arrived late in the evening with my wife and 2 children. Adriano checked me in and helped us with the luggage. As soon as we entered the sofa bed hadn't been put together and was missing sheets and pillows. Adriano came back to sort this out for us which in our opinion we really appreciated that and also as we hadn't eaten anything for an evening meal due to a long day with the children. Adriano also spoke to his manager to make food for us passed hours . This is incredible service and highly appreciated THANK YOU Adriano for your time and dedication to help me and my family with everything. The room was clean and the layout of the family room was also nice. For anyone who reads this review just ensure that you don't plan on ordering and uber eats as none and I mean 0 of the takeaways/restaurants deliver here

Fantastic experience: Fantastic place to stay. Took my wife for a birthday treat and she loved every minute. Staff were friendly and attentive and couldn't do enough for you. The room was clean and luxurious and comfortable. Food in the restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast. Not the cheapest place we've stayed at but worth every penny. Will definitely return.

Positive experience: Really quite an average hotel, slightly disguised by in some places lovely decor. Booked to stay on a Saturday night for a special occasion, can’t say anything too bad about the rooms, other than the fact it was stormy that night and we could hear the roof rattling continuously (perhaps not Aldwarks fault). The service was consistently very average, a 2 person front desk with mildly friendly staff. We ate in the elements restaurant where food was nice, but not nearly worth the prices they charge inside there, there are numerous restaurants in North Yorkshire that simply outshine this at the price point Elements is pitched at. Breakfast was also about what you would expect in a travel lodge with a nice cooked breakfast being offered, but other than that just a buffet with about 15 different cold items. Another thing to note is that breakfast closes at 10:00 which is in my opinion too early especially for a Sunday. On reflection, the visit was enjoyable but with the price of food and drinks in the hotel, almost all of us decided there are too many other brilliant places nearby to justify ever coming again.

Fantastic experience: A warm and helpful welcome, physically showing us the restaurants and facilities. I found the disabled access well thought out. Large warm room and (blissfully) two armchairs to relax and enjoy the park view. Te and coffee facilities. Parking was easy. Booked Elements restaurant for our first evening meal. Excellent service, warm welcome from all staff. Food quality and choice are also excellent. Service with a smile, and that matters to me. The best tiramisu I have ever tasted. Wine tasting room and credit to try several. Breakfast was delicious, Eggs Florentine. Beautifully decorated for Christmas and warm during the snow and chill. If you haven't been here, you are missing out. 30 minutes from York, or easy access to one of the Park and Ride stops. Great deals on at present

Fantastic experience: It is very impressive, grand location, good priced accommodation..the sports bar well £20 for a burger..£12 for a glass of wine!!! It did spoil it our stay a little bit as guests staying there we had spent enough to drive there a pay for a room we were not prepared to help maintain the golf course..

Fantastic experience: Went to their Elements restaurant to try out their 3 course Sunday Roast. Both the food and their service was great. Quite a few things to choose on their menu too. Took us about 2 hrs to finish up the whole meal though.

Positive experience: Beautiful hotel with stunning decor. Ongoing work to complete the Spa Complex. Golf weekend break, weather not so good but had one good day and a wet weather voucher for a return date. The course is coming along but still work to do. New Bunker Bar and rooms above are fabulous.

Positive experience: Golf end of season society tour, hotel beautiful, course great, told to get to dinner for 7 that first night, got main meal for 8.15 then dessert never came 4 god knows how long, needless to say a majority walked out. Next day 6 or more didn't go to dinner went the local pub 5 or so minutes walk out the grounds of hotel. Had a meal, totally well above what we had at the hotel. Don't get me wrong the deal for the long weekend with golf was good, but we're 21 men paying £300 each, cuisine food is much 4 us should of put us up for food in the Bunker Bar in which we were housed above. But like all places like these , baited by the golf deal and made to spend extortionate prices £12.50 for a pint of cider + bitter, £35 for a bottle of £8 wine, checked on Google. Come on be fair. Don't think we will be back, take heed fellow golfers.

Positive experience: This hotel is lovely, quit a drive from York. Thought the staff in the Sports bar were nice but the staff in the hotel bar not as welcoming. Breakfast was great. Few issues checking out and some of the team were unsure how to solve the problem but was resolved later on. All said I would visit again.

Fantastic experience: This hotel is gorgeous. All the team were really helpful and friendly. We stayed there for a three day work meeting. The rooms were stunning and so comfortable. The breakfast options were extensive and very nice. However one of the evenings we had a team evening meal and I was very disappointed with my vegetarian options. My starter was cold leaks with grapes, walnuts and s slice of bread and my main was a small portion of swede with a side of tender stem broccoli and nice spicy sauce. My colleague thought it was a side dish as she had more vegetables on her plate along side her large portion of roast chicken!! Other than the poor veggie food everything else was fabulous. I'd definitely recommend this lovely hotel.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful venue with wow appeal. Lovely gardens and walled garden. Food was very good, afternoon tea and buffet. the building itself is very nice with lovely old red brick and decorated to a high standard. The drive up to the manor runs through the golf course with fountains and is beautiful. highly recommended, we will be back...

Fantastic experience: Very beautiful house with super luxurious rooms. The exclusive library rooms really makes one feel special. Not sure if one will get the same level of service in the other rooms though. While this is listed as being 4-stars, some of the touches make this hotel feel more 5-stars than many I have stayed in.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful location. Historic hotel with fabulous grounds. We stayed above the Bunkers bar but it was quiet and very comfortable. Great shower and cosy bed. Food and drinks are expensive and the £30 each allowance doesn't go far in the Elements restaurant. Breakfast is great with loads of choices. The golf course was a real challenge with lots of water and ditches. The greens are tricky too. Look forward to another visit.

Fantastic experience: Had our beautiful wedding day here & it was beyond amazing - The staff were all so friendly at all points & nothing was ever too much for them! Although the following staff members really stood out and went above and beyond leading up to & on our special day. The lovely lady with red hair on reception (on 30/5 at around 2:30pm), Chloe on the 31/5, Kim for helping us plan the wedding for the last approximately 2 years and lastly Jake, who on the day did a fantastic job of making sure everything went to plan! He was brilliant. Thank you so much we look forward to coming back in the future!!

Fantastic experience: This was my second visit. I originally gushed a 5 star review which was well earned. My second visit, however, less auspicious. I have just one thing to say. The place is fabulous - but DON'T let them give you Room 311 Ebot. It is horrible. Virtually windowless, wardrobe, bathroom and sitting area - as you walk in. Bedroom and dressing 'shelf', up 14 steep stairs. Nonesense. Just refuse it.

daniel white 1 year ago

Positive experience: Beautiful hotel and the very high end of 4 star, it seems to be like brand new and a lot of money spent on it. The bar/restraunt staff seem more interested in being behind the scenes than in view. Food was ok but not particually great, and expensive. Food took a long time to arrive, even two cold sandwiches for lunch took 40 mins, which considering it was a Sunday/Monday and hotel was near empty, very poor. The management need to look at the kitchen operation as that has totally put me off using it for an upcoming event. The hotel is stunning

Positive experience: This is our 2nd visit and the 1st visit was 5 star including the room - restaurant [Elements]. This visit again the room was excellent & clean and the new Fine Dining restaurant was excellent & Sam & Matthew we're 5 star. But I've got to say Elements restaurant has dropped its standards. There was a Manager called Richard and he run the restaurant very professionally but this time we had 18 & 19 year olds and a very scruffy man in a badly fitted suit. At breakfast we had a Premier Inn style serve yourself at the bar which considering I paid for a 5 star hotel this is definitely not acceptable. I would return but if things don't improve in Elements that'll be my last visit.

Fantastic experience: Perfect hotel, they don't cut any corners anywhere, the service is fantastic, the architecture and upkeep of the grounds are beautiful. Positive experience: Aldwark Manor is a picturesque and secluded hotel, spa and golf course hotel, a perfect wedding venue. The spa is decent and there are so many nice rooms downstairs which makes a stay feel intimate. The staff are also really nice. However, the reason I only marked Aldwark three stars is because, based on our experience going back a number of years since our last visit: 1. The infrastructure, especially the newer part of the hotel, feels tired and in need of redecoration. It’s still exactly the same as when we visited 10 years prior. 2. The food was really average / borderline disappointing, and service timing in the restaurant was poor; all our meals came out at different times and one person got the wrong main and the waited ages for what they actually ordered.

Fantastic experience: Really lovely place, a bit more expensive than other places but quality toiletries and decor. Afternoon tea was nice although I struggled to like most desserts. Breakfast was nice too although missing cups, butter and hot buffet items which were provided when asked.

Positive experience: Visited for a couple nights here back in December and was really disappointed with our experience. The room and grounds were lovely - no complaints about them at all, but the staff just really weren’t very friendly at all. The spa staff were fine - the rest, not so good. Breakfast was disappointing too. Such a shame as the place has so much potential, but seems like the staff aren’t getting paid enough to be honest. Looked very much like low morale all round. Really disappointing!

Fantastic experience: I visited Aldwark between Christmas and New Year and it was so lovely. The room was lovely and cosy, had a massage at the spa which was wonderful and a fantastic meal at the element’s restaurant. I will be back again. It has such a gorgeous atmosphere, and all the staff were perfect.

Positive experience: We had an absolute nightmare trying to get to this place. There is a small toll bridge leading to the manor which has been closed for repairs since last year. I spoke to the farmer who lives next to the bridge and she said to me "yes, Aldwark is just there. Yards from the bridge. Unfortunately you're going to have another 45 minutes drive taking a route towards York"! I couldn't believe it. The manor was a stone's throw away and we had what turned out to be another hours drive to get to it. I said to the receptionist on arrival that the issue with the toll road must be affecting your business. No she said. No one else has mentioned anything! She obviously worked in post office I T services before Aldwark Manor as the restaurant manager informed us the same evening that the toll road closure has been a nightmare for business and footfall is way down on previous years!!

We were greeted by a young man Who showed us to our table at the far End of room lovley view but very drafty We got a drink and waited in this very large room and waited. we had passed the bar and other rooms, and we were the only people in the place our drink arrived, and then the next drink arrived And we waited in this cold place and then the afternoon tea arrived and then We had to ask for the tea , and then ,the mike ,and then the sugar. It was a good tea we didn't get our Champagne. The brinks were counted As that by the staff by the time we finish My husband was so cold .it was a big disappointment

Fantastic experience: Beautiful place, staff very friendly. We had the afternoon tea, which was delicious. The spa is good with a variety of treatments on offer. We lounged about in the hottub before a bit of a swim in the pool. The rooms were to a high standard, very clean. The Bunkers sports bar is decent and the food and staff in there was very good reasonable price. Would recommend it for a stay and being there just before Christmas was a bonus.

Positive experience: Set in countryside at the edge of a small village with an old church opposite and a river beyond. The entrance looks over the hotels own golf course. Inside the main public rooms are in the original manor house, modernised a bit but still very grand. My room was modern (it's been extended a lot) in another building. It was very fresh, clean with a king size bed. Power shower, big TV, kettle etc. It was qiiet, except for the owl which woke me about 4am. Had dinner in the Bunkers restaurant and bar downstairs in the same building. It was awful but a separate review as everything else was much better. Breakfast was in the main restaurant in the main building. Nice if simple continental breakfast and a satisfying full English breakfast. The restaurant looked out over the grounds. It was all very nice. Overall service in the hotel was good and there was nothing to complain about except that awful Bunkers place. Perhaps check prices as the hotel was more expensive than most other options, but did offer a lot.

Positive experience: Stayed for 1 night on 24th October 2023. The room was very good and with a view to the front of the Manor. Clean and tidy as you would expect. We used the spa facility which again was great. The only problem was there were wasps near the seating area. We dined in the Elements restaurant that evening and the service was very good. The food was tasty but a touch too fancy for my simple palette. Fine dining they call it. Beautifully decorated bar area and surroundings. It was very quiet midweek so lacked a bit of atmosphere but the staff were of course attentive. Breakfast in the morning was lovely with the backdrop of the surrounding countryside. The bar areas were again top notch and a pleasant place to spend time. We payed around £250 for the dine and dream stay over. With £45 each going to the cost of our evening meal. Bed was comfy and the rooms were warm. Yes, would recommend..

Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved this place. The room was beautiful. Everywhere was clean and very well maintained, with a good hint of quirkiness, plenty of lovely choices for breakfast, all staff were very professional, and friendly. We definitely felt well looked after during our stay and will be back.

Positive experience: Currently staying here as I write this review. Mixed feelings so far. Upon arrival I'm sure in one of the emails it stated to pull up out the front and you will be either directed to a parking space or valet parked - neither of these happened. We ended up finding parking ourselves and getting our luggage later (by driving back up to the reception and then parking again quite far away). Once checked in room was fine with a nice view but there was no fridge in room. Facilities are good at the hotel such as the swimming pool, sauna, gym etc, but unfortunately only one of us got to use them as the spa said my husband was too late to use the facilities at 7.02pm which is strange as we were told by reception at check-in adult only swimming was from 7pm to 8pm, also the information in the room said last entry time is 45 minutes before close - close being 8pm. So extremely disappointed by this as its the only reason we booked to stay here as opposed to other places such as the limetree inn. So overall quite a disappointing overnight stay which was the last of our overall 1 week cross country trip. Would we stay here again? I'm not sure we would, it's been a quite expensive 'room for the night' with no use of facilities.

Positive experience: We had a lovely stay for our anniversary. Staff were very accommodating to us and our 4 month old. Breakfast was delicious, just lacking hash browns. Spa facilities were good and it was very clean. Only think lacking in the room was hot chocolate.

Negative experience: Pretty and well equipped room (although the bed was not firm enough for our taste), nice bar, friendly staff. Dinner in Elements was a total disaster though. The restaurant itself looks lovely. Service was attentive also. However, most of the food was totally devoid of flavour and was a waste of time and effort on everyone's part. The table next to us had a similar experience and sent all of their dishes back, only to leave hungry (as did we) with no other dining options available by that point as they had closed. On the plus side, the nibbles were nice - the bread and thyme oil was lovely. The black pudding bonbons with chorizo chutney were really tasty too. Even the 'cheeseburger' spring roll starter was not terrible, just a little weird perhaps. However, the crayfish cocktail starter and both the mains (herb tortellini and chicken) were terrible as were the sides we tried (scallion crushed potatoes and tenderstem broccoli with chilli oil that also had no flavour, let alone heat). Having booked a 'dine and dream' package (with £90 towards food), we were assured by the restaurant manager that, as she was removing elements from the bill, these would be adjusted for in our final bill. They were not. We had to explain this upon checkout and, after a bit of to and fro, the hotel manager was consulted and the bill reduced accordingly. The manager did not come to check with us or ask us about our experience, which was a shame (too busy perhaps, or maybe this happens too often). All in all, a really disappointing experience and one we won't be repeating.

Fantastic experience: Wow, what a place!!! The reception staff were flawless, bar staff super friendly, our room (Superior double) was well worth the extra money. I found the entire place to be immaculate. The spa needs upgrading, but still great for now and I know it something they are planning. Id stay here again 100%, food was great and the prices for things like beers were very good for a hotel of this calibre, certainly not trying to rob people like a lot of places. We are fortunate enough to stay in hotels like this a lot and its one of the best yet. My only criticism is not enough child free time in the pool area... bit manic when we went down.

Positive experience: We had a standard room which was nice, the spa is getting re vamped soon which will make a big difference. Lots of outside seating which makes the most of the gorgeous surroundings.

Positive experience: A FABULOUS hotel. Simply wonderful BUT they locked every door at around midnight while we were taking a moonlit stroll only to be locked out of tge Hotel for 20 minutes hammering on the doors and windows and even trying to phone the hotel reception. Ridiculous. They must get a key card reader to let guests in and out. And possibly some security as we were walking around the hotel banging on windows and doors and were not approached once.

Positive experience: Had a two night stay here in March. Overall it was very pleasant with good food, but found it pricey. The room was very comfy with a scenic view over the golf course (which was closed at the time so also very peaceful). Everything was in good order and felt fresh. It was mostly clean, although the kettle had clearly been used to cook pasta previously. Dinner in the restaurant was a bit fancy with some interesting and well composed dishes. Great flavours and beautiful presentations. Service was friendly and helpful. The setting is very atmospheric, changing throughout the day. Appreciate that the vegan option was flavoursome and not just a throwaway, but would have loved some more protein in it. Breakfast was satisfying and lots to choose from, including local and homemade options. Afternoon tea was fine, but nothing special. Whilst the grounds are lovely and nice to walk around, the location seems really isolated. It's a bit of a drive to any major populated places, and the price paid did not really reflect this. Enjoyed the swimming pool and spa facilities. Make sure to go when it's not busy so that everything is available!

Positive experience: Good staff, nice bars and restaurants / terrace and the grounds are lovely and rooms clean. Unfortunately, we were disappointed considering the price (and the fact this hotel has its manor / grounds as such a key appeal) that it has currently almost the whole front facade blocked by building work, completely detracting from the building. Nothing about this was mentioned in the booking but it is very significant on arrival. Also surprised at some costs mentioned on arrival (like £10 additional per room service order) and the prices in the bar / for late checkout. Overall nice / decent but think you could get a better overall experience for the cost of the stay. Shame because the place has lots of potential.

Aldwark Manor Estate

Dear Katie,

I am glad that you enjoyed the service, bar, restaurants, grounds and rooms. I am however concerned to hear of your disappointment for the cost of tray charges and late checkouts. I will certainly pass along your feedback for consideration.

I do hope that you will visit again in the future, the work at the front of the hotel is for the fine dining restaurant which will open in February, so maybe after then.

Fantastic experience: We held our wedding there. Amazing place, fabulous location, the food is just fabulous and the service impeccable. The wedding day could not have run smoother and the staff could not do enough for you. The best day! Joe who was in charge that day ran a very tight ship from beginning to end. Fantastic experience: We had a one night stay here in room 408. The hotel has thought of everything, two tv's, one in front of the bed and one around the corner in the sitting area. Not everyone wants to watch TV in bed. The shower room was clean. The shower tray itself is a little poorly designed, the plug end being nearest the opening, and so our floor got quite wet. A makeup flannel, in grey, is provided - nice touch, as well as the miniature Molton Brown. There is also an iron and ironing board already in the room, as well as slippers and robes. The hotel was clean and modern throughout. The grounds are beautiful, ideal if you like golfing. The hotel itself is some distance from the city, however this suited us. On our stay the hotel wasn't over busy. We were greeted by the gentlemen on the door, who kindly took our bag to our room. Drinks were reasonably priced and the food at Elements was exceptional as was the breakfast. The spa was small. Literally two others in there at the time we were there but I wouldn't fancy it over crowded. The hotel emailed on check-in and in the morning with our bill for the room - this made the checkout process so much easier. We will definitely be returning

Aldwark Manor Estate

Dear Kellie,

Fantastic experience: Aldwark Manor is truly stunning. The views of the grounds are amazing. The hotel it's self is stunning and the staff were extremely helpful. Nothing was too big of a task. They were so lovely and professional. We had some amazing food, and the cocktails, again, were lovely over all I can't give this place enough credit. We can't wait to go back to try the new luxury spa once it's built

Fantastic experience: We visited the Spa today for a spa treatment and afternoon tea. The spa itself is small but perfectly formed and well equipped. The spa treatments however were out of this world. We had the algea wrap, the marine wrap and an aromatherapy message between us and it was perfection. I had the marine wrap with Holly who explained everything, was friendly and made me feel relaxed, the treatment was incredibly relaxing and my skin felt a million dollars afterwards. A gorgeous afternoon tea followed. Everyone was really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A lovely day would highly recommend.

Dear Frankie,

Fantastic experience: Such a stunning hotel! The Staff made our visit unforgettable Right away from the check in we were blown away by the Manor, the decor was stunning and the valet parking was such an nice touch We used the Spa and I had a treatment- so relaxing and such a nice space, my treatment was amazing! My favourite part had to be the breakfast, so much to choose from and the extra option of having a hot breakfast was so generous, loved the decor and environment too I can’t wait to be back, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relaxed on a mini break before A special shout-out to Sue, Jayne, Christian and Mark for making our trip amazing!

Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic few days here. Firstly, the staff are superb, absolutely brilliant. We stayed in the Bunkers and ate there a couple of evenings too. The food, both here and at breakfast was really excellent. The only comment is that the bunkers menu has 3 main dishes and 2 involve sausage, surely a curry or a chicken dish would offer more choice. The room was lovely but to nit pick I would point out that there was only a bedside lamp. In addition there is a shortage of information ie when do towels get changed, how do you get the bathroom towel rail to work, how do you control the temperature in the room? Having said that the location is magical, the room was fine, the staff fantastic and the food excellent, can’t really ask for more. We would certainly go back again.

Aldwark Manor Estate

Dear Anne,

Fantastic experience: Beautiful rooms and setting outside. We had a family celebration in one of their function rooms, and they set the room beautifully. The outside spaces have been upgraded and landscaped really beautifully, so they make a great backdrop for photographs. The staff really looked after us well. There are also lots of upgrades coming soon, apparently. The food was generous and delicious.

Fantastic experience: We stayed here for one night, the hotel is currently undergoing renovation but the main part of the hotel is complete. The standard of the hotel and rooms is superb, great quality and style. We ate in Elements restaurant in the evening, the food was outstanding, the best restaurant meal we've had since we can remember. The golf course was closed when we visited, we were told the spa will also undergo an upgrade soon and the new extension will be a fine dining restaurant.

Fantastic experience: Our first visit to Aldwark to celebrate our wedding anniversary & it did not dissappoint! I made our booking over the phone which was very easy & stress free. All information was emailed detailing our stay. On arrival we were greeted by two lovely ladies on reception who were very friendly & informative. I was given a tour before we were directed to our room. We booked a superior room which was very spacious, clean & beautifully furnished. We particularly enjoyed the bar located on our floor for use of superior rooms. We visited the spa, although we did not receive treatments the facilities were enjoyed. The staff in the spa area were also very friendly & helpful. Our evening meal was in the elements restaurant. It looks amazing with its attractive decor & seating & the food did not dissappoint. Our steaks were cooked perfectly! The staff couldn't be more attentive, each member if staffwas polite & made the whole experience very enjoyable. Breakfast was also in the elements restaurant & we had just as good experience as we did for dinner. Overall we could not fault our stay, despite work been undertaken on the grounds & building it did not affect our stay & was barely noticed. The grounds are beautiful & the sounds of the birds in the morning reminds you how far away you are from the hustle & bustle. We cannot wait to return to such a hidden gem that it Aldwark Manor Estate & look forward to seeing the renovations completed.

Fantastic experience: Superb hotel , luxurious but not pretentious . Staff professional, courteous and friendly . Had evening dinner and breakfast in Elements , excellent on both occasions . Only slight negative , went to Bunkers bar for a snack lunch on second day . Quality of food nothing like the main hotel . Burgers really poor, tough and chewy . Stick to main hotel area for quality . Looking forward to the spa upgrade , will definitely return .

Fantastic experience: My partner booked us in we for a deluxe spa package for the Valentine's weekend, and it was absolutely amazing! The service was incredible and the spa facilities were exceptional. My aromatherapy massage was probably the best I've ever had. Lunch in the restaurant was delicious! I felt incredibly relaxed after my experience and would love to go again. Definitely worth the treat! Loved every minute of it

Positive experience: Fabulous hotel - rooms & public areas had a huge refurb recently. Currently having a new fine dining restaurant added, golf course expansion & new luxury spa planned for 2024. You can see they've spent a fortune already and no expense spared. Food mostly excellent- Duck dish disappointing though- 1 end slice of a breast was not a decent portion for the price. (See photo) All other dishes were fantastic in taste and presentation! Breakfast good too - would have appreciated a smoked salmon & egg option. Cold meats & cheese listed on self-service buffet menu but they were not present on either day. All staff very friendly and professional and really try to make you feel welcome. Minor issue with TV losing all channels each night so couldn't watch breakfast tv/news without asking maintenance to sort it out, couldnt re-tune it ourselves. All in all beautiful location and stay- would be interested to stay again once the new spa opens!

Fantastic experience: Beautifully decorated rooms, finished to a high standard. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. We ate in the Bunkers Bar below the rooms. The food was well presented and delicious. Service was fantastic, the staff very helpful and friendly. Thank you to the chef who prepped me a gorgeous Feta and Avocado salad at my request which was not on the menu. The new spa is currently under development, and I look forward to returning when this is done.

Fantastic experience: We have just come back from an excellent stay. We had a relaxing and peaceful weekend. Beautiful rooms, nice food and stunning grounds. The staff were lovely, especially the reception staff, they were very helpful. The spa was okay, but I understand that they are currently building a new one, so we will be looking forward to that opening. We had a treatment in the spa and the staff again were great.

Fantastic experience: A girls overnight spa break just before Christmas. Stunning hotel, rooms beautiful and all the staff were all lovely. The gentleman on reception was so welcoming and helpful and our therapists (kat I think was the name of my therapist) were fabulous and we all had the best massages we've had and we've been to plenty of spa's. I couldn't recommend Aldwark Manor enough!

Negative experience: We recently stayed here for 4 nights including the 3 night festive stay 23rd to 27th December and so wanted this to be a wonderful experience but sadly it was lacking. As with all feedback it is important to be balanced so let me start with the positives, the visual impact of the building and grounds ( excluding the contractor's compound) on approaching the manor is magnificent. The hotel is nice and warm and beautifully presented apart from the Lady Bower suite (where the Boxing day Gala Dinner was held). The Lady Bower suite reminded me of a school sports Hall very poorly designed and decorated, not in keeping at all with the rest of the Hotel, I hope it is due for renovation soon. All staff, apart from the person who dealt with us at the time of departure, were absolutely lovely, polite and engaging. We were not given the home made goodies bag! Where Aldwark Manor really let itself down was the catering. All meals served were cold or luke warm at best, the only bread available at breakfast was gluten free, there was no alternative to butter for those wishing a health option, fruit juice was not self serve, the flavour of the vegetarian sausage was unpleasant compared with many supermarket alternatives. Most mornings there were dirty glasses beside the breakfast buffet food. Christmas lunch vegetarian option was a flat piece of cauliflower served as a cauliflower "steak "with a side of cauliflower! which was dried out and cold. On Boxing day there was no food available in the main hotel from 10 am until the "Gala " dinner at 8 pm, the vegetarian option served during the Gala meal was so poor we actually left the meal part way through and went hungry, back to our room. On Christmas eve afternoon Tea and Christmas day evening buffet were far to narrow in the choices on offer.

Fantastic experience: Wow!! I LOVE this place!! We have stayed twice and both times have extended our stay. The rooms are gorgeous, especially the signature rooms with access to the private library and the honesty bar. The food in the restaurant is delicious, I would definitely recommend the steak. The staff are lovely, really friendly and professional and the service is outstanding!!! A special shout out to the manager Christoph, Emma and David!!! Thanks again & we will see you soon!!!!

Positive experience: Very nice hotel but you’d better have deep pockets as they get you coming and going. Be aware that if they house you in the”Bunkers” off main hotel rooms, that you could have a long uncomfortable walk in inclement weather back to the hotel!!! They close the gym short cut at 10pm… stupidly. When I asked about this they politely replied that they can provide an umbrella… really.
