Experiencia negativa: I paid $25 to sign up, and only a few days later they attempted another $25 draft. When the charge declined, they added a $30 returned-payment fee. When I asked for clarity, I got different explanations from different staff members and no help removing the unexpected charges. I canceled to avoid being billed for things I never agreed to. Just a heads-up to anyone thinking about joining: make sure the billing dates and fees are clearly explained in writing upfront.

Experiencia negativa: NEXT TIME TELL YOUR LIFE GUARDS TO WATCH THEIR MOUTH, TODAY WE CAME AND THE KIDS WENT INSIDE THE POOL,THEN THE OTHER LIFE GUARD WHOS A WHITE KAREN LADY WITH LOTS OF EAR PEIRCINGS CAME AND WARNED THEM NOT TO WEAR THOSE KINDS OF FABRICS AGAIN, BUT THEN WHEN WE CAME SHE KICKED US OUT, AND THEN ME AND MY MOM WAS SO CLOSE TO PUNCHING HER IN THE FACE, BUT LUCKY WE DIDNT CAUSE SHE WILL BE AT THE HOSPITAL, BUT NEXT TIME WATCH WHO YOU GUYS ARE TALKING TO, BE MORE RESPECTFUL, BEFORE YOU GET PUNCHED IN THE DAMN FACE. I SWEAR LOTS OF TEMPTATION ARE COMING MY WAY, BUT I ASK GOD EVERYTIME TO CALM US DOWN. REPENTTTTTTT That's why you guys have lots of 1 star ratings

Experiencia negativa: The pool side area (A white lifeguard girl) She gave my kids who are 4-5yrs old a warning because she claims they were wearing underwear which they weren’t and my kids went swimming and then she went and chased them out of the pool because another lifeguard lady didn’t like their (underwear) but they weren’t they were polyester swim shorts. And then disrespected my children in front of everyone smh she lucky I was calm and collected. Why did she gave them a warning and then proceeded to embarrassed them in front of other people chasing my kids out of the pool? Please instead of enforcing the dress code for swimming ENFORCE the discrimination policy. My children were so embarrassed by that employee behavior totally unacceptable & unprofessional. Thank you for showing us that we are not welcomed in a place that was supposed to welcome ALL color people. We will cancel our membership and will never set foot in that place again. Thank you for wasting our time.

Experiencia negativa: Terrible terrible terrible!!! Extremely disappointing! I’ve gone there numerous times where I wasn’t able to use the pool! Either it’s closed, or they are having classes. Most of the pool is roped off, one little section open for swimming, but it’s full of rude instructors and children. If you’re looking to use a pool, I’d look for a different location.

Experiencia negativa: Terrible! The staff don’t help at all. I asked the front where the “youth workout room was” because the lady at the front told me my kids could workout in the “youth room.” I literally just signed in as a guest and it was my first day. They told me “go upstairs” I asked the guy upstairs at the desk “where is the youth area for my kids to workout?” Told him that it was our first day and that the lady at the front told me to come upstairs for the youth room. He told me “go downstairs and talk to the front” at this point it was completely just frustrating that no one would help or actually tell me where said “youth room” for my kids to workout in was and or show me where it was. Literally my kids and I just left without working out. Extremely frustrating to come to a place to workout and the staff won’t get off their butts to actually tell you and show you where stuff is. We never found the “youth area” that they told us about since no one would show us after asking 3 staff members about it.

Experiencia negativa: I just experienced such an awful situation at the YMCA of Anchorage in Lake Otis. My son, who is autistic, and his neurotypical sister were both enrolled in the preschool swimming class. The first class was last Monday, June 2nd, at 6 p.m. My autistic son was very excited, and yes, I admitted he didn’t have the best listening ears, but he loves the water. So we showed up today to the class after talking to him about the importance of listening due to safety. He was ready to listen this time. We arrived 15 minutes early, and he sat quietly and waited for his lesson to start. As we walked to his instructor to take them to the pool, she told us that we needed to see the manager, Steve, who showed up right there at the poolside and started to talk. He told us that we needed to get him into a private lesson because the other 2 parents complained, and they were about to pull the kids out of the class. Remind you I have both kids right there in front of him while he says that, both in swimsuits and ready to go to their class. The YMCA team couldn’t call me or email me earlier; they couldn’t do this in private, even when they had 48 hours to do so. The other two parents were right there too, smiling and taking pictures of their children while they were in the pool. They didn’t give my son another chance. The manager, Steve, didn’t even want to observe the class to see if my son was listening. There were no signs, there were no prior emails or phone calls, there was no privacy, and he spoke those words in front of my ready-to-swim children. I’m hurt, I might be overreacting, but this could have been handled so much better.

Experiencia fantástica: I love the facility and the sense of community that the YMCA has more than anything. However, the best part of the YMCA is how wonderful and caring the Child Watch workers are. I don’t know what I would’ve done as a new mom without them being so kind, both to me and my son. My son adores them, and it feels really good knowing he has more adults in his life that look after him and he can trust. They’re the gem of the YMCA.

Experiencia negativa: Overcrowded dirty locker rooms , if you want to lap swim forget it the pool caters to water aerobics swimmer are just out of luck even though we pay the same. Equipment is frequently out of service especially the tread mills and they are slow to fix. On the bright side the the employees are very pleasant and helpful to bad they are stuck dealing with the mess given to them by the management that could care less about the people that actually pay to use the facilities.

Experiencia positiva: Big windows with beautiful view of the mountains and lot of natural light in the weight/cardio room! They have a good amount of cardio and weightlifting equipment. I went here for over four years. It was getting too crowded, especially during the after school/work crowd. Nearly every piece of equipment is in use at that time. There is always broken equipment that takes far too long to repair. Also didn’t like that they have group fitness classes in the main workout area at prime times. They use a large portion of the equipment for those classes and will kick you off.

Experiencia positiva: I rarely gave any troubles, been there for a couple so years now. But I gotta pay 55$ just for the court to always be closed or closed early, or being lied to from staff saying they’ll have the pool open. not what im expecting..

Experiencia negativa: One particular employee comes in on Monday mornings and takes a large part of the weight room, cranks the stereo so loud you can't hear your own music through your earbuds any more, then screams at the seniors in her class because they can't hear her over the music.

Experiencia fantástica: A great place to work out and relax in the steam room or swim some laps in the saltwater pool. If classes are more your thing they have yoga, zumba, aerobics, etc. They're a lot cheaper than the Alaska Club and you're not trapped in a contract either

Experiencia positiva: I personally wasnt too amazed with it there since my son was around 3 or 4 years old, he is now 13. My son and his friends love to go for swimming when they have the chance to go.

Experiencia positiva: It's an OK gym Jaycob is great help in weight room. I am severely allergic to latex I reached out to management several times to ask to stop using latex balloons in the entryway, not a single call back or response email. I get anaphylaxis from them. Also the blond young lifeguards is on power trip.

Experiencia positiva: Went there to go take a shower with my kids. Had a miss communication with my account because my name kept being missed spelled (frustrating but understandin) Had an account for years under my friends. Apparently she didn't want me under her account, okay no problem ill make a new membership. But the manager wanted to come into the locker room and basically told me to get out and was very rude about it. I understand the situation but she didn't had to come at me with a rude attitude and told me to get out while I was getting dressed with my kids. Was embarrassed in front of my kids and embarrassed that I walked out crying in tears. Love and enjoy coming to this location and so does my kids. Just disappointed that i don't think I'll come back or have a membership when I get treated like that.

Experiencia positiva: Good reasonably priced gym with 2 locations in Anchorage. Only the Old Seward location offers child care, both locations have pools, machines, and cardio stations. Classes offered as well as before and after school programs for kids.

Experiencia fantástica: This is a good place to work out. The prices are very good compared to the other gyms in the area. They have a basketball court, sauna, swimming pool, and decent amount of cardio equipment and weights. The hours of operation are really convenient and the people that work there are nice. I have absolutely no complaints about this place and would recommend it to anybody who needs a local gym to work out at.

I was surprised at how clean the place is, most pools/gyms/sports complexes I've been to are filthy and likely to collect germs. I don't have any complaints only good remarks. Update: Been going here for a while now, I love it. The place is clean, staff are awesome, and the equipment is taken care of, in working order.

Experiencia positiva: Taking every precaution, the YMCA on Lake Otis is clean, friendly caring staff. I appreciate a much needed workout on the machines. They could separate the very popular machines, like ellipticals, place less popular machines in between so more people can use them, rather than the ellipticals being side-by-side and thus some unusable

I have sensitive skin that can't handle the chlorine so that was a huge plus. Also, membership rates are really reasonable.

Experiencia fantástica: I mainly use the Lake Otis location, and I absolutely LOVE their gym. I love all the things they offer at such a reasonable price. My children come with me often and I am able to work out while they are in the rock gym or in the daycare section, I trust my children with the staff there 100%! All so friendly and show true passion for my needs anytime I need assistance. The winter hours are awesome for my children for open swim, we are able to swim before or after dinner for as long as we want verse typical 1 hour- 2 hour open swim time increments at other places. I can't say enough about the YMCA. You can clearly notice the changes they make and take their customers feedback seriously. I always recommend them to my friends whenever they ask about referrals to a local gym!

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to work out. It has exercise equipment, A swimming pool, sauna, free classes with a membership. There is lock already on the lockers. Free tea and coffee and super friendly staff. There is also a low income application if you need that. It's the best gym in Anchorage! Maybe even the best in Alaska!

Experiencia negativa: Only one star for Soutside Dimond YMCA. Very rude management staff. No one follows the rules: there are people who go in the pool without taking a shower, or swim with clothes on. And also in the hot tub, people go in it naked. Speaking of the hot tub, it hasn't been fixed for three whole weeks! This place is very filthy, unclean, and really unhygienic! We found a used pad in the women's locker room on the floor, and the whole floor in the steam room was covered in hair! In addition, there was a woman sitting down on the floor in the locker room, who was dying her hair. Maybe the laundry drier was also broken, because the towels they gave us were wet and soggy and a had brown patches! Everyone does wat they want, and again they don't follow any rules at all! I am very disappointed about this place!

Experiencia negativa: Update - I had only good things to say until my daughter starts getting sick, after being in childcare for just an hour, my kid sneezed 18 times in 20 minutes after I picked her up and had a runny nose. They are exposing her to something and I can't get management to respond to my inquiries. Before drop off, my daughter had no runny nose or sneezing for 4 days at least. We have a dog and walk around with the pollen, etc. That's what they tried to tell me when I brought it to their attention. At any rate, the excessive sneezing and nose running would not start if she picked up something after only an hour of exposure. 06/03/2019 This gym is awesome because you get so much out of your membership. Great showers, lockers, always working athletic equipment with free weights and machines, a good sized pool too. There are some free classes if you want and community potlucks sometimes. The childcare is great for parents. The ladies always take good care of kiddos.

Experiencia fantástica: This Y has a salt water pool, and it is well managed. Steam room is now open, and the varied exercise equipment is well maintained. Roomy locker room has plenty of showers, and is also clean. Free towels for the asking. What’s not to like?

Experiencia fantástica: I go to the Y for my aurthritis class the instructor is very nice. The exercises are great n specifically geared for those suffering from arthritis. The people there are nice.

Experiencia negativa: Second star is for the building & pool only! I went to join the YMCA, however, experienced Unwelcoming staff, lacking basic knowledge about the YMCA membership, wasn’t even offered a tour.

Experiencia positiva: The YMCA recently upgraded and remodels a lot of the building. Enjoy bringing the kids to B Ball. They also have Gym equipment and pool.

Experiencia positiva: I was a member of the Lake Oatis Y and loved it, but it was not close to my house. So, when I saw the diamond Y opened I was thrilled, until I went. It is the stereotype of a Y. Unclean, with dingy carpet everywhere. They charge 15 for a day pass and if you decide you want to become a member after the day they do not apply the 15 to the month. The staff were not as awesome as the Y across town. Kids were running wild and jumping and diving into the small pool, wild, out of control. And I love kids! I was there with my 2.5 year old and thought the life guard would have attempted to encourage pool etiquette. I did like that the pools were Much warmer than the other Y’s. And my two year old of course loved it and didn’t notice any of the things that annoyed me. I think with more staff training and a few upgrades this place has a lot of potential. They need to work out the silly pricing details, like the one I named above. And they do punch cards, but they use a 1/2 punch for toddlers, even though a toddler is free with a day pass or membershipjust thoughts. Not the worst, but not the best.

Experiencia negativa: Bad customer service and rude front desk workers. Half the things at the gym are broken most the time. When the gym was closed for over 2 weeks due to flooding no refunds were made.

Experiencia negativa: Used the YMCA for after school care and summer program and would not EVER do again. Staff was on their phones or talking with each other instead of watching the kids. A few of the kids should have been kicked out for fighting or cussing, and don't call DAVE or KARI to resolve the incidence cause they would not call back. A few times I had o go up there and the two knew nothing. For the price I paid I was sadly disappointed in the companies lack of care, guidance and support for the youth. One star is being generous.

Experiencia positiva: All I can say is Wow! This isn't my normal gym but its super close to my house and I dropped in for a quick visit/workout today for the first time since early last year. Last time I was hear everything was fairly worn out and ran down, the whole place was just kinda dingy. Since then it has been given one serious overhaul! When I went in today the whole place was laid out different. The old worn out gym equipment has been fixed or replaced with all new top line stuff. The view of the mountain from huge glass Windows while working out on the second floor is second to none! Words fall short of the differences between this place last year and its current state!
