Mercer Park Aquatic Center and Scanlon Gym

Experiencia positiva: Excellent pool. I only gave 4 stars because there is only one shower for handicapped women in the women's locker room and I've had to wait while a non handicapped person finished their shower, since it isn't marked.

Experiencia fantástica: A long time community center and resource. A great pool and gym facility, available for public use, plus things like pool tables and other activities, and meeting rooms. Surrounded by Mercer Park, an east Iowa City mainstay for children and adults to play and engage in sports. One sad note, initially it was only an aquatic center, with an architectural style mimicking a riverboat. When it was expanded in the late 90's to add the gym facilities, this unique architectural theme was destroyed. Such is the price for progress, but sad all the same.

Experiencia fantástica: My favorite indoor pool in Iowa City. Dedicated lanes for lap swimming, a water exercise area, a deep end where people practice paddle boarding, diving board and swim laps, a hot tub, and an area for children to swim. There's also an outdoor wading pool in the summer and a nice sun deck. Watching hawks hunt outside the hot tub window in winter is pretty cool, too.
